Role definition

Role purpose
The Project Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Women’s Economic Empowerment and Leadership in Sierra Leone (WELL) project activities funded from the In Their Lifetime (ITL) funds in twenty (40) communities in Kailahun district (20) and Pujehun district (20) in Eastern and Southern Sierra Leone respectively. The post holder will be based in Bo with frequent travels to Pujehun and Kailahun to monitor and support partners’ work in target communities. The role will be responsible for planning and guiding implementation and completing monthly quarterly updates (and case studies) and annual reports. This role will also manage the compliance with safeguarding and accountability requirements and provide technical backstopping to project staff in Kailahun and Pujehun. The role will also require an interface with Orange Money, Njala University and Rokel Commercial Bank as collaborative partners in the implementation of the project. The role requires a self-motivated, dynamic and innovative person with extensive knowledge in women’s economic empowerment, gender and community mobilization.
Key outcomes programme

Management and Delivery

Ensure the effective planning and implementation of the project to achieve the desired outcomes of the project coordinate the implementation of the project with collaborative partners – Orange, Rokel and Njala University on different elements of project delivery. Ensure the legal status of the Savings/Credit Unions to ensure that support leads to transformation in behaviour and attitudes of project participants. Ensure groups and communities agree on points/locations suitable for the digital financial services points where financial services transactions can take place safely. Monitor and support partners in their planning and implementation.




Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and learning with the support of the CA M&E Coordinator, finalize the MEL Plan for the project and ensure implementation all through the project. Coordinate learning and review sessions with partners and stakeholders as stated in the project plan.Support quarterly learning events involving project participants and stakeholders. Facilitate outcome harvesting, using the excel-based tool, to ensure that project outputs and impact are captured and recorded on an ongoing basis. Lead on annual review/learning sessions to review impact, strategies and approaches for sustained programme impact. Consolidate and share monthly updates, quarterly reports with output/impact case studies and annual reports to the SEND Country Director for review and onward submission to Christian Aid Sierra Leone

Communications, Networking and Coordination
Build relationships with collaborative partners (Orange and Njala University) and ensure effective communication on project implementation and learning. Ensure that key community and district stakeholders are involved in project planning and delivery at all stages and are providing the required support for success. Share information with key stakeholders as would be necessary to ensure that project is fully engaging with all relevant stakeholders. Attend/participate in relevant coordination meetings at district and community levels. Seek opportunities for collaboration/partnerships to expand or scale key impactful interventions of the project based on results and learning.




Reporting
Produce timely and quality quarterly reports with case studies (photos and short videos) to the Country Director for review and subsequent submission to Christian Aid Sierra LeoneProduce timely and quality annual reports to the Country Director for review and subsequent submission to Christian Aid Sierra LeoneProduce quality reports from review and learning sessions with clear recommendations or action points for improvement.

Safeguarding and Accountability

Role context 

The role will report to the Thematic Health Advisor/SPO Health.  It will not have direct reports but will be required to oversee the work of partner staff who work solely on this project as well as ensure compliance with our corporate response to Safeguarding and GESI across elements of Christian Aid’s programme in Sierra Leone.  This role holder will be required to build a network of key contacts both inside and outside of Christian Aid.  The role will be expected to support the local team and will have the necessary interpersonal skills and a proven track record for doing this.  The role will involve travelling to the project district to ensure the effective implementation of the project.

Person specification

Applied skills/knowledge and expertise essential

Degree or equivalent in Social Work or Development Studies or Gender Studies.Significant experience of working with groups and local partners, and of providing partner support and capacity building Strong relationships/networks within the health community in Sierra Leone, especially within the NGO sector. Significant experience leading project proposal writing understanding of gender and inclusion-sensitive programming hands-on experience of monitoring and supporting community-based development programmes.Considerable understanding and experience of safeguarding policy and procedures excellent report writing, communication (written and verbal) skills

Desirable Knowledge of and experience in working with partnerships, including women’s savings groups, and with other team members excellent analytical skills knowledge of and experience savings schemes and women’s economic programming in Sierra Leone.Ability to network effectively, with the ability to develop a wide range of relevant contacts  Comfortable working within a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team
