VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
POSITION: ADVOCACY and FUND RAISING OFFICER (FULL-TIME)
LOCATION: 5 WALPOLE STREET, FREETOWN

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

 The Advocacy and Fundraing Officer will among other things:
 Coordinate advocacy and fundraising activities at national and local levels.
 Develop, manage and support advocacy and fundraising activities including events-
based;
 Maintain an advocacy and fundraising database/documents and develop/design
organizational materials.
 Lead proposal writing for grant and other bid applications;
 Develop and broaden corporate support;
 Develop/review and update the SLAB strategic plan to guide advocacy and fundraising
activities;
 Work with the Director and Administrative/Finance Officer to have a good overall
understanding of all revenue streams.
 Work with the Director to raise the profile/awareness on the Organization including
successes and plans at all levels through all relevant existing platforms.
 Contribute updates of advocacy and fundraising events and activities for quarterly
Newsletters/annual national reports.
 Write appeal letters and direct mail in collaboration with the Director and the
Administrative/Finance Office.
 Assist in preparing quarterly and annual progress reports for Board and other project
requirements.
 Will be required to support project activities in the seven in the projects districts
 Undertake any other work that is requested for on-going organization projects/activities
during the duration of the contract and
which the management team deem that the officer has the skills to support and/or
contribute to for the further development of the project of the organisation.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

 Degree in the Social Sciences or related field of studies.
 At least, Three (3) years work experience in advocacy and fund raising including
proposal development and marketing.
 Ability to communicate effectively and work across departments, with demonstrated
experience in integrated project activities.
 Self-guided, strong organizational and planning skills and ability to work under tight time
constraints.
 Strong research and data analysis skills
 Strong communication and presentation skills (Written and Oral)
 Skills in Microsoft office.

ABOUT SLAB:

The Sierra Leone Association of the Blind (SLAB) is a national civil society Blindness platform
with a membership of more than Four Thousand (4000)
Blind and Low Vision and other non-Blind Persons. Established in 1976 by the Blind
themselves, SLAB is largely decentralized with membership structures in twelve (12)
of the country's sixteen (16) districts namely Port Loko,
Bombali and Tonkolili in the North, Bo, Moyamba, Pujehun and Bonthe in the South, Kenema,
Kono and Kailahun in the East and the Western Area Urban and Rural districts.
The Organization was currently undertaking the three-year SLAB Amplified Project in Seven (7)
districts namely Kenema, Kono,
Tonkolili, Bombali, Port Loko, Moyamba and Bo. It focuses mainly on Organizational
Development, advocacy and empowerment
with activities including branch development, regular stakeholders engagements at all levels and
socio-economic activities including
small scale economic enterprises and Orientation and Mobility (training in the use of the White
Cane) in the project districts, with the
support of the Danish Association of the Blind (DAB) in Denmark.
