Programmes include Alternative Care settings, Interim Care Centres, Youth care programmes that support more than 530 children and young people leaving in villages and in communities. In addition to quality care, we advocate for children, young people and women’s right, protection, safeguarding and empowerment. SOS Children’s Villages also provide quality education to over 4,000 students through its Herman Gmeiner International Schools, Kindergartens and Technical Vocational/ Employability and Entrepreneurship Training Centre in support of care-exit strategies and reintegration processes. Other projects include the Youth Innovation challenge & Youth-Can! which support young entrepreneurs with their businesses and young people on their quest to employment. The emergency programmes aid vulnerable families cope with the impact of COVID-19 and the economic downturn to prevent family separation.
SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone is recruiting a Compliance Coordinator to execute risk-based audit procedures designed to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls. She/he will ensure effective measures are in place for the management, control, monitoring and mitigation of all risks within SOS Children’s Villages in Sierra Leone.
She/he will review and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, adequacy of internal controls, reliability of financial reporting, compliance to applicable laws and safeguarding of assets within SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone.
Provide technical support to functions/departments/programmes in order to ensure efficient internal control systems are in place within the National Association.
Support, maintain and strengthen partnership with relevant government bodies on Child Rights, Protection and Safeguarding.
She/he will develop, recommend and implement standard compliance audit procedures to be used throughout SOS Children’s Villages in Sierra Leone. Develop a compliance scoring system, based on results of compliance tests, and implement
Conduct periodic review on the programmes and implementing partner financial data and documents, operation and programme delivery to assure accuracy, completeness and compliance with policies, and procedures and applicable government regulations, donor requirement and others.
Stay abreast of changes in regulatory environment related to donor/grant compliance; updating field level policies and procedures as necessary, with the approval of the National Director.
Plan, perform and report back on internal audits to ensure that financial control, financial guidelines of donor organizations and other control procedures in place are properly implemented and managed.
Identify vulnerability and risk within current grants and proactively suggest and together with the management, develop corrective actions.
Oversee grant administration including modifications, annual planning coordination, compliance monitoring and reporting, and compliance management.
Analyse procurement requests, authenticate Service Providers, and evaluate information regarding vendor’s performance in the areas of quality, prices, and delivery of goods in view of the Organization’s best interests.
Work with management to resolve internal audit findings and establish controls and mitigation measures to avoid similar findings in the future, providing regular updates to management on progress towards such controls.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant field (e.g. Audit, Finance, Accounting, Management, etc.).
- Five years relevant professional experience in the area of compliance or audit (preferably with International NGOs and UN agencies).
- A generalist with strong familiarity with various business controls (e.g. HR, Finance, Procurement, I.T, and Programme).
- Proven knowledge of and success in providing audit, compliance, or risk oversight of donor-funded programmes, in an international environment.
- Good knowledge of donor regulations.
- Solid experience with Excel, Word and Power Point.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
- Effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
- Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with willingness to adapt quickly to arising deadlines, and respond urgently to needs.
- Experience of solving complex issues through analysis and problem solving
- Ability to influence key decision makers and build a network within an organization
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

DURATION OF CONTRACT: One year with a possibility of an extension based on performance and/or availability of funding
