Position Summary :

The Clinical Advisor contributes his/her energy, passion, and skills primarily to supporting Seed’s midwifery work in Sierra Leone. The Clinical Advisor: (a) works closely with clinical training sites, Seed educators, and midwifery schools to establish achievable and measurable clinical training objectives, (b) Provides clinical and academic technical support to educators and partners (c) works closely with midwives, preceptors, Seed educators, Program Manager, MEL Officer and students at clinical training site to support implementation and facilitate evaluation and learning of objectives. This full-time position reports to the Country Director and works closely with educators and training site health workers as well as domestic and other technical international team members.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support clinical training and implementation

  • Provide technical support to midwifery partnerships to facilitate clinical training and practice strategy, and learning for continuous improvement
  • Work closely with Seed educators, training site staff, and faculty to support and facilitate execution of midwifery improvement – activities
  • Maintain a strong relationship and open lines of communication with clinical sites and midwifery school(s) for smooth coordination of activities including ongoing program support, implementation of trainings, and new evidenced-based practices.
  • Provides clinical and academic technical support to educators and partners
  • Provide clinical expertise and vision in the strategic planning of partnerships
  • Lead Seed educator applicant interviews and manage selection process
  • Provide technical support in the development of partnership work plans and educator scopes of work
  • Provide educational and clinical support to Seed Educators during implementation of partnership work plans and throughout their deployment in the country
  • Engage with professional associations to network and disseminate Seed’s work
  • Identify and cultivate advocacy opportunities and policy initiatives
  • Promote and support Continuous Quality Improvement projects
  • Facilitate and promote educators sharing of stories of the work they are doing
  • Contribute to learning, sharing, and packaging of effective practices that lead to improvement in education and training
  • Document, compile, and disseminate strategies on successful interventions for knowledge management and sharing purposes for internal and external audiences, such as success stories, etc.
  • Work with program manager to produce timely reports on the progress of partnership objectives for the Country Director
  • Willingness to work in the clinical area

 

Educator Integration :

  • Support provision of technical assistance to Seed educators to optimize their general capacity to perform their professional functions as clinician-educators.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the orientation of Seed Educators
  • Establish regular (remote and in-person) check-ins with educators to support their work
  • Interview Seed educator applicants, provide advice on candidates and the matching process of qualified applicants to partner institutions.
  • Coordinate the development of educator scopes of work by liaising with partner sites as assigned.
  • Prepare educators and their in-country collaborators for a meaningful collaboration through cross cultural, technical, and contextual orientation in the form of workshops, immersion activities and regular communication.
  • Liaise with other team members such as Finance Officer and Operations and Admin Manager to ensure critical information is passed along and to stay informed of relevant in-country travel, safety, security and logistics for educators.

 

Technical representation :

  • Assist in identifying areas the organization is likely to have the most meaningful impact on country priorities for midwifery education and training
  • Provide support to the Country Director to represent Seed Global Health within professional networks, communities of practice, and technical groups
  • Identify and cultivate advocacy opportunities and policy initiatives
  • Identify and support opportunities for co-creation of academic and professional practice partnerships.

 

Qualifications:

  • A qualified and registered healthcare professional (Nurse/midwife or Midwife) with a master’s degree in a health-related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years clinical work experience, with at least some of this experience being within the last 2 years
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching students or other staff members in the clinical setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of up-to-date, evidenced-based practices in maternal-newborn health
  • A strong understanding of the health system and health professions pathways in clinical education and policy
  • A strong network within the health professions and health education fraternity within Sierra Leone
  • A strong network within the health and midwifery profession
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 package (Excel, Word), Google Suite
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to build respectful relationships with colleagues from different cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a growing, fast paced work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility
  • Attention to detail; excellent analytical, writing and synthesis skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively solicit required guidance to attain agreed deliverables
  • Comfortable with high profile liaison
  • Immediate availability
  • Sierra Leone national

 

Working Conditions :

Position based in Freetown, Sierra Leone with frequent travels (monthly/bimonthly) to partnership sites in Makeni, Bo and Kenema.

 

Compensation

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience.
