Job Location:

Port Loko / Lokomasama Chiefdom (Petifu Junction) with frequent travel to Kamasondo Chiefdom as well as occasional travel to Concern Port Loko office.

Job Purpose:

The Agriculture and Natural Resource Management officer will provide technical guidance to and be responsible for implementing the:

Sustainable Natural Resource Management activities: Using participatory/ community based methods to support the community to analyse their environment and its food sources – e.g. farm land, rivers, forests. Support communities to implement agreed measures/activities to use and manage their resources sustainably to ensure diverse and enough food production from the natural environment in the long term.

Nutrition-sensitive sustainable Agriculture activities: Through farmer Field school approach - Support farmers to ‘grow what they eat’ to enable them to sustain healthier and more diverse diets from their own production. With a focus on climate smart sustainable (organic) production of diverse nutrient rich crops – and developing integrated crop and livestock farming systems on their own farms.

S/He will ensure that agreed targets are on track, collect monitoring and case stories, provide quality reports.

Main duties & Responsibilities:

Programme planning and implementation

Under supervision of Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Team Leader:

Contribute to the development of monthly and weekly work plans with the team based on the overall project work plan and timeframe;

Participate in community entry meetings and identification of vulnerable households using PRA tools;

Participate as active participant in relevant project training of trainers;

Train/coach beneficiaries on key climate and nutrient smart agricultural topics using FIBL Organic Farming Manual for example: soil fertility/composting, mixed cropping, mixed farming,, homestead gardening, sustainable management of natural resources, post-harvest loss, natural pest control etc;

Train/coach beneficiaries on LANN+ Module 4 - Agriculture and management of natural resources – support participatory community land mapping and establishment and coaching of NRM committees;

Support other project field officers in roll out of other LANN+ training modules and nutrition camps where needed;

Support the establishment of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and strengthen the capacity of master farmers to cascade sustainable-organic agricultural practices through the FFS;

Support FFS groups to develop integrated crop and livestock farming systems on their own farms;

With Project team support development and implementation nutrition-sensitive (gender sensitive) and climate-resilient community micro-development plans;

Preparation documentation (ToR, SRs, training curriculum, budget, float request, transport request...) for a programmatic and logistical preparation to implement agreed field activities – trainings, workshops, coaching and monitoring visits;

Facilitate trainings and workshops in areas of responsibility ensuring all paperwork are properly filled and procedures followed (such as attendance list, payment receipt etc.)

Monitoring and Evaluation

Ensure that all agreed Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning requirements are captured on time through standardized data collection tools; are accurately and submitted to the M&E Officer;

Participate in project planning, review meetings with staff and stakeholders, and ensure that key recommendations and learning are incorporated into day-to-day project implementation;

Participate in baseline, end line and monitoring surveys as required.

Reporting and documentation

Participate in the writing of monthly activity reports through the timely submission of activities up-date to the Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Team Leader;

Actively participate in the production of donor and annual reports by giving updates and inputs to the Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Team Leader in a timely and accurate manner;

Actively participate in the documentation of good practices and case stories working with PQ team;

Participate in correct and accurate filling of documentation (soft & hard copies);

Other responsibilities:

Promote full accountability and compliance with Concern’s Code of Conduct & Associated Policies, including promotion of Concern’s Complaints & Response Mechanism (CRM), to ensure maximum protection of programme participants and the efficient and transparent use of Concern’s resources;

Education, Qualifications & Experience Required

Essential

University degree in Agriculture or Development or other Social Sciences;

Minimum of 4 years’ experience of implementing development projects in (and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of) livelihoods, climate smart agriculture, natural resource management (experience in gender and nutrition an advantage);

Good capacity in community mobilization and knowledge of participatory approaches;

Job Purpose:

The Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Team Leader will provide day-to-day supportive supervision of the Field Officers in their team - to ensure that project activities are being carried out as per the agreed work plan. S/He will ensure that agreed targets are on track to be met fully and with high quality. S/He will ensure that staff are present in their assigned field locations and will monitor the delivery and completion of their work.

Project specific;

Oversite and ensure quality of activities and outcomes for the following LANN-NSC pillars:

Sustainable Natural Resource Management (NRM) activities: Through participatory/ community based methods to support the community to analyse their environment and its food sources – e.g. farm land, rivers, forests. Support communities to implement agreed measures/activities to use and manage their resources sustainably to ensure diverse and enough food production from the natural environment in the long term.

Nutrition-sensitive sustainable agriculture activities: Through farmer Field school approach - support farmers to ‘grow what they eat’ to enable them to sustain healthier and more diverse diets from their own production. Incomes and markets: Promotion of nutrition-sensitive and gender-sensitive value chains, savings schemes / VSLAs and other support for income generation for vulnerable farmers (especially women), to enable them to sustain healthier diets and prioritize other expenditures important for family nutrition security. Empowerment of women in agricultural and savings/income generation through the VSLAs and value addition/processing etc.

Main duties & Responsibilities:

Specific Roles and Responsibilities - Under the supervision of the Project Manager

Programme Cycle Management:

Provide oversite, management and ensure quality of activities and achievement of outcomes for the following LANN-NSC pillars: Sustainable NRM; Nutrition-sensitive sustainable agriculture; and Incomes and Markets – coordinating with counterparts in Welthungerhilfe (WHH) to harmonise approaches and promote sharing and learning through the Project Manager;

Develop monthly and weekly work plans with their team based on the overall project work plan and timeframe, and monitor progress against these plans taking action to rearrange plans where necessary;

Prepare regular narrative reports on project activities and submit to Project Manager.

Ensure all expenditure is authorized and spent in accordance with Concern’s internal procedures and in line with project budget;

Ensure all aspects of project activities under their responsibility adhere to programme quality standards and policies (PM&E, accountability and mainstreaming) in a coherent and integrated manner;

Ensure that the project activities under their responsibility are accurately reflected in the integrated MEL system, identifying activities to be monitored and data to be collected;

Participate in project community entry meetings and identification of vulnerable households using PRA tools;

Support Project manager to organise and implement the project baseline study and needs assessment - highlight areas of the adaptation of LANN-NCS to Port Loko context;

Contribute to the designing and delivery of training models, learning processes, resources, materials and workshops

Participate as active participant in relevant project training of trainers;

Ensure identification of and documentation of good practices (with PQ unit): related to Sustainable NRM; Nutrition-sensitive sustainable agriculture; and Incomes and markets;

Build and maintain effective professional relationships with community leaders, Chiefdom, District stakeholders and project animators to aid successful programming;

Participate in project planning and review meetings with staff and stakeholders and ensure that key recommendations and learning are incorporated into day to day project implementation;

Submit weekly work plans aligned with the overall programme implementation plan and monthly reports to Project Manager;

Contribute to the development of monthly, quarterly and annual reports;

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, ensure the mainstreaming of cross cutting themes by field officers in all activities: COVID-19 prevention & awareness rising; Gender and Equality; Community participation and empowerment; Right-based approach.

People Management:

Line manage VSLA, Markets & Income Generating Officer and Agriculture & Natural Resource Management Officer, contributing to their capacity building and career development through technical support and on-the-job training and coaching, including a thorough induction at the start of their contract.

Ensure that all team positions have accurate job descriptions and that each member of the team fully understands deliverables which are expected of them, by setting SMART objectives, and that they are aware of the success criteria relating to their work.

Ensure that all staff are aware of and comply with all of Concern’s Policies and procedures;

Job Purpose:

The Food and Nutrition Security Officer will provide technical guidance to and be responsible for implementing the:

Scaling-Up Nutrition and Immunisation Movement (SUNI) and Food & Nutrition Security (FNS) network activities: Support the establishment and strengthening of Chiefdom and community FNS networks in project locations through - capacity building on FNS concepts; supporting FNS in conducting outreach activities related to analysis and monitoring. Fostering greater sharing and dialogue between FNS and SUNI as well as other the sectors on how to work collectively towards food and nutrition security at community and district level.

Nutrition Education activities: Through participatory approaches that raise awareness of the principles and importance of nutrition, especially for women and children, as well as on improving the use of healthy food (from mixed farming products, naturally available nutritious foods, backyard gardens etc) for dietary diversity for the household.

S/He will ensure that agreed targets are on track, collect monitoring and case stories, provide quality reports.

Main duties & Responsibilities:

With Project Nutrition Supervisor and FNS Officer - Support the roll out of the Nutrition Smart Communities Nutrition Camps intervention including:

Organising screening of children in project counties aged 6 months to 3 years (anthropometric measurements by trained animators and Community Health Workers);

Participatory targeting of vulnerable households with malnourished children to engage in Nutrition camp sessions;

Support nutrition camp sessions in areas of expertise: hands-on infant and young child feeding practices; cooking demonstrations of low-cost nutritious recipes; preparation and demonstrations of low-cost nutritious instant mixes for children; education on food and personal hygiene, safe drinking water, active feeding and care during illness.

Give technical input to adapting the intervention to the context of the project communities

Evaluate, document and share learnings/best practices coming out from nutrition camps with FNS/SUNI/DHMT and other key District government stakeholders.

Support other project field officers in roll out of LANN+ training modules;

Job Purpose:

The Gender and Nutrition Officer will provide technical guidance to and be responsible for implementing the:

Nutrition Education activities: Through participatory approaches that raise awareness of the principles and importance of nutrition, especially for women and children, as well as on improving the use of healthy food (from mixed farming products, naturally available nutritious foods, backyard gardens etc) for dietary diversity for the household.

Main duties & Responsibilities:

Programme planning and implementation

Under the supervision of the Nutrition Supervisor:

Contribute to the development of monthly and weekly work plans with the team based on the overall project work plan and timeframe;

Participate in community entry meetings

Provide input on the design of tools and criteria to identify vulnerable households to engage in the project using PRA approach (with a focus on gender) and participate in the process;

Participate as active participant in relevant project training of trainers;

With Project Nutrition Supervisor and FNS Officer - Support the roll out of the Nutrition Smart Communities Nutrition Camp intervention including:

Organising screening of children in project counties aged 6 months to 3 years (anthropometric measurements by trained animators and Community Health Workers);

Participatory targeting of vulnerable households with malnourished children to engage in Nutrition camp sessions;

Support nutrition camp sessions in areas of expertise: hands-on infant and young child feeding practices; cooking demonstrations of low-cost nutritious recipes; preparation and demonstrations of low-cost nutritious instant mixes for children; education on food and personal hygiene, safe drinking water, active feeding and care during illness.

Give technical input to adapting the intervention to the context of the project communities

Train/coach beneficiaries in target communities on LANN+ Module 1 - Getting to know our food and in LANN+ Module 2: Mothers and children nutritional needs (1,000 days window);

Support other project field officers in roll out of LANN+ training modules where needed;

Lead on community sensitization and engagement activities on gender equity, SGBV prevention and decision making at HH and community level with Ministry of Social Welfare and Ministry of Gender and Youth’s Affairs;

Lead on delivering Living Peace gender transformation sessions at family level;

With Project team support development and implementation nutrition-sensitive (gender sensitive) and climate-resilient community micro-development plans;

Preparation documentation (ToR, SRs, training curriculum, budget, float request, transport request...) for a programmatic and logistical preparation to implement agreed field activities – trainings, workshops, coaching and monitoring visits;

Monitoring and Evaluation

Project specific;

Oversite and ensure quality of activities and outcomes for the following LANN-NSC pillars:

Nutrition-Sensitive and gender-sensitive WASH activities at community level:Promotion of improved hygiene and sanitation practices and facilities at household and community level to reduce the prevalence of diarrheal diseases (for an improved utilization of and sustained effect of improved diets) – focusing both on behavior change and improved WASH hardware.

Scaling-Up Nutrition and Immunisation Movement (SUNI) and Food & Nutrition Security (FNS) network activities: Support the establishment and strengthening of Chiefdom and community FNS networks in project locations through - capacity building on FNS concepts; supporting FNS in conducting outreach activities related to analysis and monitoring. Fostering greater sharing and dialogue between FNS and SUNI as well as other the sectors on how to work collectively towards food and nutrition security at community and district level.

Programme Cycle Management:

Provide oversite, management and ensure quality of activities and achievement of outcomes for the following LANN-NSC pillars: Nutrition Education; Gender transformation; Nutrition-Sensitive and gender-sensitive WASH; and SUNI & FNS network – coordinating with counterparts in Welthungerhilfe (WHH) to harmonise approaches and promote sharing and learning through the Project Manager;

Contribute to the development of monthly and weekly work plans with the project team based on the overall project work plan and timeframe;

Participate in community entry meetings and identification of vulnerable households using PRA tools;

Preparation documentation (ToR, SRs, training curriculum, budget, float request, transport request...) for a programmatic and logistical preparation to implement agreed field activities – trainings, workshops, coaching and monitoring visits;

Facilitate trainings and workshops in areas of responsibility ensuring all paperwork are properly filled and procedures followed (such as attendance list, payment receipt etc.)

Monitoring and Evaluation

Ensure that all agreed Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning requirements are captured on time through standardized data collection tools; are accurately and submitted to the M&E Officer;

Participate in project planning, review meetings with staff and stakeholders, and ensure that key recommendations and learning are incorporated into day-to-day project implementation;

Participate in baseline, end line and monitoring surveys as required.

Reporting and documentation

Participate in the writing of monthly activity reports through the timely submission of activities up-date to the Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Team Leader;

Actively participate in the production of donor and annual reports by giving updates and inputs to the Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Team Leader in a timely and accurate manner;

Actively participate in the documentation of good practices and case stories working with PQ team;

Participate in correct and accurate filling of documentation (soft & hard copies).

Promote full accountability and staff, partner, etc. compliance with Concern’s Code of Conduct & Associated Policies, including promotion of Concern’s Complaints & Response Mechanism (CRM), to ensure maximum protection of programme participants and the efficient and transparent use of Concern’s resources;

Job Purpose:

The WASH Officer will provide technical guidance to and be responsible for implementing the:

Nutrition-Sensitive and gender-sensitive WASH activities at community level: Promotion of improved hygiene and sanitation practices and facilities at household and community level to reduce the prevalence of diarrheal diseases (for an improved utilization of and sustained effect of improved diets) – focusing both on behavior change and improved WASH hardware.

S/He will ensure that agreed targets are on track, collect monitoring and case stories, provide quality reports.

Main duties & Responsibilities:

Programme planning and implementation

Under the supervision of the Food and Nutrition Security Team Leader:

Contribute to the development of monthly and weekly work plans with the team based on the overall project work plan and timeframe;

Participate in community entry meetings and identification of vulnerable households using PRA tools;

Participate as active participant in relevant project training of trainers;

Train/coach beneficiaries in target communities on LANN+ Module 3 - Hygiene and basic sanitation: topics include personal hygiene and sanitary practices, effects of effect of diarrheal diseases on nutritional status especially vulnerable groups (Children under 5, pregnant and breastfeeding women) and includes food and water storage safety

Train beneficiaries on PHAST and Sanitation Marketing

Support other project field officers in roll out LANN+ training modules and nutrition camps activities related to WASH;

Identify most in need communities and roll out the WASH Self-Supply activities (supporting the communities with subsidized water facilities) in consultation with the communities and local authorities;

Provides technical guide on context specific approaches to rehabilitation of water points – e.g. to project VSLA groups on how their savings could be used to improve WASH in their locality;





Support establishment and capacity building of water management committees in project communities;

With Project team support development and implementation nutrition-sensitive (gender sensitive) and climate-resilient community micro-development plans;
