Reporting Relationship: Project ManagerSUMMARYAs the liaison between project team and construction workers, he/she will be the key person in charge of overseeing the timely completion of all construction work (school buildings, disability friendly toilets, bore holes, etc )  with a keen awareness  and interest of material quality and workers performance and safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Project Manager –, will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring that the project activities are implemented according to the Project design as provided in the proposal.
  • Work closely with the Project Officer, Contractors, and other service providers in the field in consultation with Project Manager.
  • Oversee and ensure that all safety rules are being followed at the site all the time.
  • Produce work schedules in accordance with the availability of employees, contractors and labor laws and monitor the attendance of workers
  • Participate in daily project supervision – oversight of the hired contractor and ensuring the bills of quantities are adhered to.
  • Managing the assigned construction to meet the project objectives within budget and allotted time frame.
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting as necessary due to weather, supply delivery, and personnel
  • Develop and oversee quality standards on the site.
  • Monitor and manage project resources on the site.
  • Resolve conflicts or miscommunication that may happen on-site quickly and amicably.
  • Report project status to Project Manager and other relevant people regularly.
  • Provide technical support to the Procurement Committee in the selection of the contractor(s) for the construction work.
  • Provide Technical guidance in the designing of construction projects.
  • Supporting the application/implementation and adherence to existing policies, strategies and set standards by donor and Government.
  • Assisting in documenting lessons learnt/good practices and other relevant reports for future programming of similar projects.
  • Regularly review project status, comparing budgeted to actual expenditure.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely progress reports according to ChildFund and Donor timeframes and formats, including timely submission of the reports.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting on issues/factors that can affect the smooth implementation of the project and share in a timely manner with the CO and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate timely and quality documentation and reporting of project progress and site report production monthly, quarterly, and annually.
  • Ensures adherence and compliance to the organizational policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION       

  •  Degree in Engineering/ construction related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction best practices, equipment maintenance, and use, and OSH guidelines.
  • Ability to read drawings, bills of quantities, plans, and blueprints and convey this information to others.
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in the management of community projects and preferably in construction projects.
  • Proven organizational, analytical, leadership, negotiation, and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is an added advantage.
  • Ability to prioritize, focus and deliver quality results within deadlines while meeting conflicting work demands and targets, working with or without teams with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with donor, project stakeholders, County collaborators and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently, focus and deliver quality results within deadlines and with minimum supervision.
