International Non-governmental organization,Β Action Against HungerΒ has been working to fight undernutrition and support communities affected by crisis across the globe for almostΒ 40 years and across nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger established its presence in Sierra Leone in 1991 during the Civil War and since then has been operational by implementing various humanitarian and development programs related to health, nutrition, food security/livelihoods and advocacy geared towards the reduction of the prevalence rates of under-nutrition in the country. Action Against Hunger Sierra Leone Coordination office is based in Freetown, overseeing the current operations in Bonthe and Moyamba.

Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as Nutrition and Health Deputy Program Manager to be responsible for the overall quality implementation of health and nutrition program(s) in Freetown Western Area Urban and Western Area Rural in collaboration with the Country Manager Nutrition and Health

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESΒ :

  • Lead the overall management of the health and nutrition programs with technical guidance and direction in line with the program expected outcomesΒ 

ResponsibilitiesΒ 

  • Management of the project cycle in health and nutrition
  • Timely and updated program work plan in place
  • Program activities delivered in line with the program work plan
  • Proper targeting of the program beneficiaries and facilities
  • Program implementation tracked through quantitative and qualitative Activity Progress Reports (APR)
  • Partners work are aligned with project outcome and deliverablesTh
  • Financial management as well (budget tracking and forecast)
  • Develop and direct operationsΒ 

Responsibilities

    • Timely and high quality implementation of planned activities within his/her programme and alertingΒ  the Health and Nutrition program manager to any delays or excessive or under-use of resources
    • Timely and high quality reporting, both internal and external, of the activities of his/her programme, together with a critical analysis in collaboration with local partners
    • Identifying and proposing the development of new programs
  • Contribute to nutritional and health sections activities in proposals developmentΒ Β 
  • Train and manage the program team, with clear guidance and support in the delivery of the programΒ 

Responsibilities

  • The twice yearly assessment of the skills and performance of the ACF team in his program
  • The management of his teams (leadership, monitoring, motivation, supervision, mentoring…)
  • Organize staff development programs for the Action Against Hunger teams

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating of the technical performance and skill level of the ACFΒ  and local partners teams
  • Identification of training needs
  • Developing the technical skills of the program teams
  • Ensuring the quality and pertinence of training programs established for the ACF and local partners teams
  • Represent ACF and develop local partnerships

  • The professional standing of ACFΒ  in his geographical area
  • The distribution to partners of information collected locally
  • Respect for the principles and values of ACF in its relations with partners

Activities:

  • Contribute to the development of necessary gender methods and tools, such as overall guidelines and guidelines for specific processes and the work of different parts of the department.
  • Initiation of a competence development programme, if not already carried out, and initiate on-going activities to increase the professional capacity of all staff in gender mainstreaming, using own resources or outside expertise
  • Develop indicators for assessing progress with gender mainstreaming, adapted to the various types of work in different parts of the department.
  • Arrange for the preparation of special reports as needed, on particular gender issues.
  • To ensure sex disaggregation in all project reports (APRs, Donor reports)
  • Ensure the inclusion of boys, girls, women and men in all project implementation especially in Action Against Hunger supported communities
  • Contribute to develop gender-integrated annual work plans to include the gender objectives, activities to achieve the objectives, and indicators to measure progress toward the achieving the objectives for all staff.
  • Demonstrate experience and/or personal commitment to promoting gender equality within the Action Against Hunger working environment
  • Ensure that project activities are carried out with cultural sensitivity, promote gender equality and inclusion of marginalised groups;
  • Work with field teams to ensure access and participation of women, men, girls and boys at risk to Action Against Hunger interventions
  • Conduct Gender leadership trainings for project staff, community leaders and target communities, beneficiaries;
  • Include gender lens and component in to all trainings for beneficiaries, project staff and partner staff
  • Conduct training to raise awareness of the gender equality, equity and poverty dimensions
  • Support local stakeholders in organizing and carrying out advocacy and campaign for greater gender equality and equity in social protection programmes
  • Engages with State and local Women’s rights organizations and mobilize collective voice around gender discrimination in the post conflict setting
  • Proactively represent Action Against Hunger and participate in Gender working groups

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Master Degree is preferred
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in the same field.
  • Previous experience in Humanitarian field will be an asset.

  • 3-5 years of working experience on managerial and coordinator position in NGO in the highly appreciated

WORK CONDITIONS

STARTING DATE:Β AUGUST 2023

DURATION OF CONTRACT:Β Initial Ten (10) Months Sierra Leonean contract (Renewable)

LOCATION:Β Freetown,Β with possible travels to Moyamba, Bonthe, and other field areas

REMUNERATION:

Monthly Basic Salary:Β Β SLL 6,428.35Β toΒ SLL6,942.61 based on profile

Monthly Housing and Transport Allowance:Β 15% of basic salary each
