AVSI is recruiting to fill the following positions:
1.) Junior Project Officer
2.) Child Protection Expert
AVSI is a non-profit non-governmental organization (NGO), recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and credited at the United Nations Economic and Social Council. AVSI is an authorized body for the implementation of international cooperation interventions, in Sierra Leone since 1993, with specific skills on the implementation of programs in education, child protection and youth employment. 1.) Junior Project Officer
With regards to the above and in the framework of the project ‘HOME - GHana, IvOry Coast, Sierra Leone: a network to welcoME and educate vulnerable minors’ approved with resolution no. 5 of 13th January 2021 by Italian Committee for International Adoption (CAI), AVSI is currently seeking to recruit a:
Position: Junior Project Officer
Type of employment: Full time – National contract
Duty Station: Western Area District – Country Office
Department: Project
Report to: Child Protection Expert and Project Assistant
Summary of the key responsibilities:
Implement project activities to achieve the set objectives in a quality and timely manner;
Facilitates context analysis, baseline studies, monitoring and evaluation of activities to identify current situations, future impacts and guide implementation;
Facilitates training of partners and project beneficiaries to improve the delivery of child protection activities;
Prepares and submits progress reports detailing activities undertaken and data collected;
Participates in regular project meetings to discuss work progress to ensure the attainment of project objectives;
Fulfills AVSI Child Safeguarding Policy at all times to protect children from all forms of abuse;
Performs any other duties that may be assigned to support the achievement of organizational goals.
Required qualifications:
Bachelor Degree from a recognized university OR its equivalent, in field of Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or other related fields.
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in social development, planning and management in child protection and/other related areas in a reputable and well established institution or organization, preferably in NGO;
Knowledgeable in UNCRC, Child Protection Policy and Practices in Sierra Leone;
Previous and relevant experience in implementing project on Alternative Care and/or working with foster care families is an asset;
Driving licence is an asset.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written);
Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy;
Highly organized and flexible;
Strong team-building;
Strong logical reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving;
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet;

Summary of the key responsibilities:
Manages and coordinates staff to implement project activities to achieve the set objectives in a quality and timely manner;
Provides technical support for the implementation of all activities ensuring child protection and gender is mainstreamed in all related project interventions;
Facilitates context analysis, baseline studies, monitoring and evaluation of activities to identify current situations, future impacts and guide implementation;
Develops or facilitates training programs, and facilitates training of staff, partners and project beneficiaries to improve the delivery of child protection activities;
Conducts regular visits to project areas to provide technical guidance to staff for effective implementation and management of related project activities;
Facilitates or initiates partnerships, networks coalitions and alliances with other stakeholders to improve project activities;
Prepares and submits quarterly progress reports detailing activities undertaken, tasks (including monitoring plans) to be undertaken and indicators of performance and prepares progress reports for work implementation;
Participates in regular project meetings to discuss work progress and develops appropriate strategies to ensure the attainment of project objectives;
Fulfills AVSI Child Safeguarding Policy at all times to protect children from all forms of abuse;
Performs any other duties that may be assigned to support the achievement of organizational goals.
Required qualifications:
Advanced Degree from a recognized university OR its equivalent, in field of Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or other related fields.
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in social development, planning and management in child protection and/other related areas in a reputable and well established institution or organization, preferably in NGO;
Knowledgeable in UNCRC, Child Protection Policy and Practices in Sierra Leone;
Previous and relevant experience in dealing managing project on Alternative Care is an asset.
