BBC Media Action produces creative programmes in multiple formats - such as radio and social media – that inform and engage audiences around key development issues, and also seeks to strengthen the media sector through capacity building partnerships.




BBC Media Action is seeking media professionals who are experienced in mentoring and training to lead the capacity strengthening activities of the radio stations component of a new, 3-year programme aimed at supporting media freedoms in Sierra Leone, Ethiopia and Bangladesh – PRIMED.

We are seeking highly experienced and committed Mentors to lead the Sierra Leone capacity strengthening component – this will involve training and managing a team of Media practitioners to provide support and guidance to strengthen the output and sustainability of a media outlets in Sierra Leone. The role will involve working closely with internal functions of Production of a media outlet that he /she is deployed. This role is classified as a coaching role, in line with relevant Sierra Leonean labour law.




The Journalism Mentor role may involve working with groups of children and vulnerable adults and will absolutely require effective working knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures in relation to protection of children and vulnerable adults. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check will form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action operates a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
