SLE 1097 GIZ funded SGVC in COVID-19 Crisis Time – Phase II
Welthungerhilfe is working for 14 years on the development of cocoa and coffee value chain in the district of Kenema, Kailahun and Kono focusing strongly on production, fermentation and drying of the produce for exportation of cocoa beans to international buyers in Europe. With the GIZ funded Value Chain Programme for specific commodities - cocoa, coffee, cotton, the uninterrupted and sustained functioning of value chains for export commodities in Covid-19 crisis times is addressed. Farmers will be supported to expand their production as value chain actors will be supported to assure aggregation and trading of the produce. Dry season activities for food and nutrition security are encouraged. Covid-19 prevention measures with hygiene items will be further provided.

Job Purpose
The Nutrition officer is expected to provide field level nutrition education to improve knowledge of LANN women groups and project communities using the LANN approach. He/she should be responsible to trigger and support positive behavioural change emphasizing on household feeding practices, ration management, growth monitoring, household food availability and mothers and children’s nutritional status.. The position will be 80 % based in LANN project communities to strengthen relationship with stakeholders, build capacity of LANN women groups and animators, and promote ownership of the project. The remaining 20% of your time will be spent in SLE-1097 office in Kenema to prepare reports and plan activities

Tasks/Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Head of Project, the nutrition field officer has a primary responsibility of supporting the effective and efficient delivery of nutrition intervention in line with SGVC in COVID_19 Crisis Time project goal and objectives
Specifically, Nutrition officer responsibilities are:
Regularly monitor the execution of Project Implementation related activities and results, provide feed-back to the Head of Project.
Organize, coordinate, implement and document meetings, trainings, and other events related to the project’s field of activities.
Participate and contribute in project review meetings
Facilitate nutrition trainings and supervise cascading of trainings.
Accompany project members and communities in ensuring best nutritional practices
Coordinate with local authorities and communities to gain full support in the implementation of nutrition activities.
Ensure quality of nutrition interventions through monitoring and supportive supervision in project communities
Provide supportive supervision to animators rolling out/cascading nutrition education trainings to group members.
Provide field level support to short-term consultants and experts of the project to fulfil their tasks during their assignment
Coordinate the planning of project activities within the defined area.
Follow-up on the project area monitoring system in close cooperation with the monitoring Officer
Coordinate and support colleagues in other area of activities to foster team work and learning.
Experience, Education and competencies
Has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nutrition, or any related field from a recognize university
Has experience in LANN approach to nutrition.
Has at least 3 years of working experience with an NGO or CBO.
Should have essential knowledge causes of malnutrition, Community base approach to management of malnutrition, community base approach to infant and young child nutrition/feeding promotion, social behavioral communication change
Has relevant experience in gender and nutrition integration.
Is a good team player.
Possesses good leadership and coordination skills
Has good communication and decision-making skills
Has good computer skills (MS Ward, XL, and internet)
Has good report writing skills
Must be able to work under pressure
Is transparent and accountable in utilization of project resources
Must be able to ride motor bike with a valid licence
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in team
Good knowledge/experience in non-formal education/training approach.
Background working with grassroots communities.
Representational and networking abilities
Languages
Excellent command of spoken and written English and spoken Krio and/or Mende.
Computer Skills
Advanced knowledge of basic office programmes (i.e. MS Office, Excel)
