ACADEMY COACH JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Head of Sports Academy
Based in: Rogbere, Sierra Leone
Hours of work: 8am-6pm
Role purpose
To deliver academic sessions across a variety of age groups specifically with the focus of developing sporting talent. Coaches will be able to:
• Help young people develop their sporting skills through excellent teaching.
• Create a curriculum that can be taught to a variety of age groups.
• To deliver an excellent program that teaches sports and life skills to academy students Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Coaching
1. To develop a process of selection for academy students
2. To establish and run daily football training sessions effectively
3. To be a role model to young people in sporting skills, fitness, spiritual leadership and pastoral care
4. To develop skills and qualifications in coaching to maximise effectiveness of your role
5. Training and leading other coaches and volunteers
Management
6. To maintain and steward equipment
7. To produce reports on the students suggesting areas of strength and areas of improvement
8. Providing regular reports on progress to ACTB Foundation
Network
9. Create and maintain good relationship with the schools and PE teacher
10. Create relationship with other bodies such as the Sierra Leonean FA for talent progression
11. Organising tournaments and regular matches with other teams
Person specification
1. Awareness of personal capability and effectiveness and the need for self-improvement.
2. A willingness to undertake tasks associated with sports coaching e.g. setting up equipment.
3. Punctuality and reliability.
4. As coaches are role models to the children and young people with whom we work, we expect coaches to be of good character and have a positive and affirming attitude.
Abilities
1. To communicate with, and relate well to, children and young people.
2. To have good interpersonal skills, relating well to people
3. To be able to understand and appreciate the values, concerns or feelings of others.
4. To identify and provide opportunities to enable other people to reach their full potential.
5. To be flexible and open minded in order to respond to changing needs or circumstances.
6. To be able to deliver quality results and outcomes in a professional manner.
7. To have good organization skills
Essential Desirable Knowledge and Qualifications
• Knowledge of how to plan an engaging and age-appropriate Sports coaching session.
• Knowledge of Safeguarding Children issues.
• Awareness of Health and Safety issues.
• Hold a minimum D CAF licence
• Hold a proof of police clearance to work with minors• Health and safety training.
• First Aid training.
• Hold A, B or C CAF licenceExperience• Experience of coaching at least one Sport discipline.
• Experience of delivering Sport sessions to young people
• Experience of implementing effective behaviour management strategies during a Sport coaching session.• Active participation in Sport
