SLRCS is seeking talented, hard-working, and dynamic Sierra Leoneans for the position of Project Coordinator – Tree Planting & Care.

Date required: February 2022.

Duty station: SLRCS HQ, Freetown with frequent travels to the provinces as and when required.

Fixed term – One year with possible extension based on performance.

JOB SUMMARY: The Project Coordinator (Tree Planting & Care) under the technical guidance of the Director of Programmes is responsible for the overall management (day-to-day planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting) of the Tree Planting & Care project activities at community, district, and national levels. Ensures coordination at district and national levels with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) and other relevant state and non-state actors is effective throughout the project lifecycle.





Work internally with Finance and Logistics departments for effective management of the project. Develops monthly workplan and cash forecast for smooth implementation of the project. In close collaboration with Community Engagement & Accountability (CEA) focal point enhance active participation of the designated communities.

Main Duties

    • To facilitate the implementation and coordination of all the components of the Tree Planting & Care Project.
    • Supervise, the use of programme assets and ensure that they are used for the intended purpose for which they were bought.
    • Approve all cash request prepared by the Project Finance or Field Officers to ensure that requests are in line with approved POA and budget.
    • To be responsible for the preparation of annual plan of action and annual budget for submission to the Programme director.
    • Ensure the provision of quality service and maintenance of high standards in the delivery of Tree Planting & Care Project activities.
    • Coordinate monitoring and supervision of the Tree Planting & Care to evaluate progress and learning against set objectives.
    • To ensure proper financial management/accountability of programme funds. (Requests and returns are in line with approve budget).
    • Prepare and submits programme reports (monthly, quarterly, half yearly, annually) to the director of Programmes
    • To represent the society at meetings organized by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security (MAFFS) and or other partners’ conferences and workshops.
    • To provide professional and technical support to the Programmes director and other programme staff.
    • To adopt and integration model between different projects of SLRCS
    • Provide leadership to Field Health Officers, to develop, implement and evaluate the Tree Planting & Care Project.
    • Raise national attention on the reduction of deforestation activities.
    • Plan using participatory method to improve standards and effectiveness.
    • Evaluate the performance of the Tree Planting & Care Programme staff against set targets and objectives




  • Serve as a liaison between the project and relevant state and non-state actors at national and district levels.
  • Liaise with Finance team for quality and timely submission of the financial report.
  • Lead baseline survey (KAP) assessments in each of the six project districts to determine the prevailing situation.
  • Design appropriate data collection tools and facilitate regular collection for quality reporting purposes.
  • Organize mid-term project review with relevant stakeholders at national and district level.
  • Plan and carry out trainings for staff, volunteers, and key community members for the effective management of the project.
  • To perform any other duty as may be requested by the Programmes director.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture/Forestry/Related Fields
  • Knowledgeable in agricultural extension work is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Red Cross movement is an added advantage
  • Experience of at least 4 years, two of which must be at a senior level in a reputable organization is an added advantage.
  • Computer literacy is advantageous.





Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

  • Background in project management especially in forestry/agroecology or related fields.
  • Knowledge on the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement
  • Good knowledge and understanding of rural development, dimensions of poverty, gender concerns and participatory methods and approaches to community development.
  • Have communication, mobilization, teamwork, leadership, and managerial skills
  • Strong leadership, team building and team management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills including the ability to build collaborative relationships with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and political issues.
  • Must be able to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in English and at least one Sierra Leonean Language including ability to develop reports and prepare relevant publications for tree planting and food security
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and resolve differences and conflicts
  • Ability to maintain high standards of integrity, transparency and accountability establishing straight forward, productive relationships, treating all individuals with fairness and respect, demonstrating sensitivity for ethnic, cultural and gender differences.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer application packages such as word processing, Power point, spreadsheet, database, and Internet Explorer.
