Introduction

 

SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone is looking to engage a trainer/facilitator to conduct a training on how to build an independent and high performing team, organized for heads of units/departments and Locations that will be engaged in the process of building their teams, as well as different activities with beneficiaries.




 

SOS Children's Villages Sierra Leone was established in 1974 (the village in Freetown being the second oldest in Africa), we work with partners in communities to help families care for their children or to provide an alternative, for instance an SOS family, in which the love of a Care Giver is essential.

 

Located in Freetown, Bo and Makeni, SOS Children's Villages Sierra Leone has a wide range of programmes (Children's villages, youth facilities, educational facilities, clinics) which supports more than 4,199 children in accessing and exercising their rights.

 

In addition to quality care, we seek to provide quality education to all the children through our Herman Gmeiner International Schools and Kindergartens through service providers.




 

Background

Developing high performance teams in a work force can be challenging. The aim to create a safe environment where each individual’s skills, attributes and talents are harnessed for the growth and development of the organization. It is important to focus on helping leaders to understand what makes a team tick, and to put efforts into actions that will make real difference. No team is the same, but the things that help make them perform better and become a success have been explored in-depth, giving us the opportunity to focus on the key things that will help make a difference.

 

 It’s not easy to develop high performing teams where everyone works together and towards the same goals. If you want to harness the different skills and attributes of the people within your organization, it’s important to focus on helping leaders to understand what makes a team tick and to put the effort into actions that make a real difference..

 

The ‘high performing teams’ training course materials will give your participants the knowledge and skills required to develop and nurture their team, ensuring they are better abled to meet the challenges of the organization and to meet business goals. The training would be suitable for managers, leaders, supervisors and anyone else that needs to work with a team.




 

Purpose and Coverage

The purpose of the training is on building an independent and high performing team. The heads of units/departments/locations will be engaged in developing their teams and improving on the overall performance of their units/location/department. The participants at the training/workshop will be heads of units/locations/ departments from all our four locations (National Office, Freetown, Bo and Makeni) targeting managers and coordinators in different professions (HR, Finance, ICT, Program, Principals and Care professionals).

 

Methodology and scope of work

Under this section, the proposed methods for organizing the training on building an independent and high performing team will help to create a more professional, dynamic, effective work team that enjoys the work environment and consistently achieves more. Under the supervision and in close co-operation with the HROD Manager, the trainer and facilitator will implement the following tasks:

 

Creation of the methodology and training schedule, based on the assessment document:

Interactive, engaging teaching matrix e.g. Discussions, games, activities.

Drafting the methodology and training schedule and submission to the National Director for approval;

Finalizing the methodology and training schedule;

Conducting the 6 (six days) trainings – 2 days in each location with the training team moving to each location.

Selection of the training dates in collaboration with the HROD department;

Propose a budget for the training to the ND for approval through the HROD

Based on the adopted methodology and training schedule, conducting the training;

Conduct the evaluation of the training.

Report on the conducted trainings.

The facilitator will be engaged to conduct 3 sets of trainings (two days session per location).




 

Trainer/facilitator deliverables

The following will be the expected deliverables of the Trainer/facilitator:

 

Work plan for developing the trainings, including strategy and proposed methodologies, as well as quality assurance plan;

Evaluation of the trainer/facilitator work, based on evaluation forms received from participants;

Successful facilitation of the training.

Technical advice and support to participants during the training.

Final report on the implementation of the tasks after finishing the training.

 

Duration and time frame

The training shall be expected to be completed within one week (two training session, for each location).

 

Six (6) days after signing of the contract the trainer/facilitator will have to provide to SOS Children Village Sierra Leone with plan for implementing trainings that will articulate the overall requirements of the ToR including proposed methodology, work plan with clear timelines, and division of labor.

 

Consultancy Competencies, Experience and Skill Requirements:

 

Minimum university degree in Social Science or other relevant field;

Extensive experience (at least 5 years) experience in completing trainings/workshops for organizations;

Extensive knowledge of the humanitarian sector in Sierra Leone;

Extensive experience on building capacities;

Demonstrated high level of professionalism and an ability to work independently and in high pressure situations under tight deadlines;

Excellent inter-personal communication skills including experience of facilitation of trainings/workshops and presentation;

Proven and demonstrated broad knowledge of and ability to utilize principles, methods, techniques and systems of project management;

Excellent communication and written skills in English;

Deadline and submission of expression of interest

 

SOS Children Villages Sierra Leone invites interested teams to submit the following documents by 13/09/2021, 16:00hrs.

 

Expression of interest (EoI) outlining how the trainer/facilitator meets the selection criteria and their understanding of the ToR.

A summarized description of the scope of work and the intended methodology to be used as well as a tentative work plan including activities and time frames.

Names and contacts of three recent professional referees (previous clients) for whom similar work has been conducted.

An example of similar pieces of work completed recently.

Curriculum Vitae (CV) outlining relevant qualifications and experience.

Itemized financial proposal.

Evaluation and Selection Process




 

This application is open to trainers/facilitators who are specialized in completing trainings/workshops and have proven and demonstrated broad knowledge of and ability to utilize the principles, methods, techniques and systems of building an independent and high performing team. The selected trainer/facilitator will be responsible for designing and executing all the activities described in this TOR in collaboration with SOS Children’s Villages HROD department.

 

The selection process of the trainer/facilitator will be based on the set of criteria developed by SOS Children Villages Sierra Leone Evaluation Committee to evaluate the proposals. The Evaluation Committee will evaluate the proposals by using the combined scoring method. Technical proposal will be evaluated on 60%; whereas financial proposals will be evaluated on 40%. The short-listed bidding consultant or firm will be expected to submit and conduct a formal presentation prior to the final selection.

 

Final report

This section outlines expectations in terms of inception and final reporting, as well as interim process updates.

 

The Final report will document the context in which the trainings took place.

 

The deadline for sending the report is 5 days after completion of trainings. Approval of the final report by the Contracting Authority will be the basis for issuing the final payment as indicated in the Special Conditions.
