Job Vacancy at World Hope International – Social Worker (Sierra Leone)
JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Social Worker will include taking referrals of survivors of human trafficking. They will make appropriate referrals, transport survivors to shelter-based care, assess families for safety, attend court sessions, conduct family bonding sessions, reintegrate survivors into the safe communities, and conduct post-reintegration follow-up visits. The social worker may also train staff and community members on proper safeguarding, as summarized above, as well as to respond to any policy breaches, in coordination with other team members. They will do this with a kind, compassionate, supportive, and professional approach. The Social Worker will develop relationships within specified communities where WHI is working, especially with schools and community leaders.
They will offer training for people in communities and make referrals to appropriate support services if they identify anyone facing abuse. They will offer supportive counseling to survivors identified and keep clear case notes on their therapeutic interventions and survivors’ progress. They will liaise with Child Welfare Committees, and WHI-created Village Parent Groups, where applicable, to increase the level of support and protection within the community. They will also represent World Hope at coordination meetings, at the national and local levels. They will refer cases to law enforcement as needed, and follow-up cases to the judicial level.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
– Referring cases of survivors of abuse, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Trafficking in Persons, to appropriate support services: to other WHI staff, other organizations, the appropriate ministry, and/or law enforcement.
– Occasional travel, in rural areas of Sierra Leone, will be a requirement of the job; – Liaising closely with the international Anti-Trafficking and GBV team of World Hope International
RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS
1. Education
Degree or certificate in Social Work, Gender or associated field, or relevant work experience
2. Job-related experience and knowledge
Knowledge of protection issues is required.
Must have a willingness to closely follow and help to train on Child Protection Policy. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
3. Time required in job to reach effective performance
4. Probation period – three months
