With regards to the above and in the framework of the project “Promoting Equity and Access to Quality Education: A Citizen’s Engagement with Sierra Leone’s Free Quality School Education (FQSE) Program” funded by European Union, AVSI is currently seeking to recruit a:
Position: Project Coordinator
Scope of the position: the Project coordinator will be responsible to coordinate and implement an EU project aiming at supporting civil society organizations to strengthen their work in Education Sector and social accountability.
Type of employment: Full time (40 hours per week)– National contract
Duty Station: Western Area District – Country Office with field visits to implementation districts
Department: Project
Report to: Project Manager and Program Coordinator
Summary of the key responsibilities:
- Organize and Manage activities aimed at strengthening the capacities of CSOs operating in education sector, ensuring its timely and effective delivery for the achievement of expected outputs.
- Coordinate and oversee staff and contractors involved in the implementation of trainings and capacity building activities addressed to CSOs staff.
- Ensure follow up to beneficiaries and CSOs to monitor project progresses and redefine if needed strategies and activities.
- Facilitate context analysis, baseline studies, monitoring and evaluation of activities to identify current situations, future impacts, and guide implementation.
- Provide overall support to Sub grantee during sub grants implementation and facilitate timely and qualitative implementation of the project in compliance with AVSI and donor requirements and regulations.
- Facilitate or initiate partnerships, networks coalitions and alliances with other stakeholders to improve project activities.
- Participate in coordination meeting with lead applicant and project partners to discuss work progress and develops appropriate strategies to ensure the attainment of project objectives.
- Prepare and submit progress reports detailing activities undertaken, tasks (including monitoring plans) to be undertaken and indicators of performance and prepares progress reports for work implementation;
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned to support the achievement of organizational goals.
Required qualifications:
- Advanced Degree from a recognized university OR its equivalent, in related fields.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in management, coordination of development project in Sierra Leone.
- Demonstrated experience in capacity strengthening of Local Civil Society Organizations, governance, and social accountability mechanisms.
- Knowledge of European Union grant management principles and procedures.
- Sound experience in organizing training activities, workshops.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written);
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Detail-oriented and works with a high degree of accuracy.
- Highly organized and flexible.
- Strong team-building.
- Strong logical reasoning, critical thinking and problem solving;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and use of relevant software and other applications, e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet;
