BBC Media Action is the international development organisation of the BBC, using media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights. Our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. We produce creative programmes in multiple formats – such as radio and social media – that inform and engage audiences around key development issues, and also seeks to strengthen the media sector through capacity building partnerships. BBC Media Action has been operating in Sierra Leone since 2007.
BBC Media Action is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the Sierra Leone component of a project aimed at supporting media freedoms in Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Bangladesh. Protecting Independent Media for Effective Development (PRIMED) is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and aims to increase the capacities of media outlets and support governments, media regulators and professional bodies to develop regulations and legislation that are supportive of public interest journalism.
Context
We are seeking a highly experienced and committed Project Manager to lead the delivery of this project, managing all aspects of coordination with partners, mentoring at radio stations, research, operations, and finance. This role is classified as a supervisory role, in line with relevant Sierra Leonean labour law. This role will require effective working knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures. For the successful candidate, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct. A police background check will form part of the recruitment process. BBC Media Action follows a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people.
