Programme implementation is based in four areas, namely Tonkolili District, Port Loko District and Western Area Urban and Wester Area Rural.

Job Title: LANN WASH Officer
Project Linking Agriculture, Natural Resources and Nutrition (LANN)

Job Context: Concern in partnership with Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is implementing a LANN+ Nutrition Smart Communities – a rights-based approach and integrated programme aiming focusing on the promotion of sustainable food and nutrition security for vulnerable rural households in target communities of Port Loko District. LANN+ Nutrition Smart Communities centers on a participatory nutrition education in rural areas, levering agriculture, natural resource management and women empowerment for improved household nutrition.
Job Purpose: The LANN+ WASH officer will implement Nutrition-Sensitive WASH activities at community level: Promotion of improved hygiene and sanitation practices and facilities at household and community level to reduce the prevalence of diarrheal diseases (for an improved utilization of and sustained effect of improved diets) – focusing both on behavior change and improved WASH hardware.

S/He will ensure that agreed targets are on track to be met with high quality reporting.

Main duties & Responsibilities: Programme planning and implementation 

  • Under the supervision of Food and Nutrition Supervisor
  • Target vulnerable households using PRA tools.
  • Ensure every targeted households maintains safe sanitation and hand washing practices.
  • Sensitise and train target communities on improved WASH practices such as safe treatment and storage of drinking water, correct hand washing and the use of hygienic latrines.
  • Train animators and community on LANN Module 3 – Hygiene and basic sanitation: This module aims at personal hygiene and sanitary practices. It also includes food and water safety.
  • Rehabilitation of water points and capacity building of water management committees
  • Participation in the elaboration of community micro-development plans.
  • Develop monthly and weekly work plans in line with Project Implementation plan and submit to Team Leader for approval.
  • Participate in the designs of ToRs and other documentation (SRs, traning curriculum, budget, float request…) for a programmatic and logistical preparation of the fields activities such as trainings and workshops.
  • Facilitate trainings and workshops on WASH related topics to be carried and ensuring all paperwork are properly filled (such as attendance list, payement receipt etc.)

Monitoring and Evaluation 

  • Liaise with the LANN M&E Officer to ensure that WASH accurate data are collected through standardized data collection tools.
  • Participate in project planning, review meetings with staff and stakeholders, and ensure that key recommendations and learning are incorporated into day-to-day project implementation.

Reporting and documentation 

  • Participate to the writing of monthly activity report through the timely submission of activities up-date to the FNS supervisor.
  • Actively participate in the production of donors and annual reports by giving updates and inputs to the Supervisor in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Actively participate in the documentation of good practices in LANN+ Project throught the production of activity reports as per agreed template.
  • Participate in correct and accurate filling of documentation both soft and hard copies.

OTHERS / SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that Cross cutting issues: Gender & Equality and COVID-19 prevention & awareness rising are mainstreamed in all activities.
  • Build and maintain effective professional relationships with community leaders and animators to aid successful programming.
  • Participate in WASH coordination meetings at District level
  • Complete any reasonable task requested by the Supervisor.
Emergency response Concern is committed to responding to emergencies efficiently and effectively in order to help affected people meet their basic needs, alleviate suffering and maintain their dignity. To this end, when emergencies strike and Sierra Leone Programme is to respond, all staff are expected to be willing to actively participate in emergency responses, regardless of location and contribute to the efforts aimed at achieving the humanitarian objective of the organization.
Person specification: Essential

Education

  • Must have a diploma in community development or public health or relevant experience in WASH

Desirable

  • Additional certification in M&E
  • Fluency in Temne and Krio language (spoken) / Check
  • Valid motorbike license and ability to ride
  • Computer skills / MS Word and Excel

Job related Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum 4 years experience in community development/WASH/Health related programmes
  • Minimum of 2 Years working with INGOs
  • Training and competence in group facilitation
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Good communication, interpersonal and  observation skills
