🇸🇱 Job Vacancy @ Crown Agent – Climate / Sustainability Coordinator

Freetown, Sierra Leone Posted on Project Management

Since 1833, we’ve been empowering leaders to accelerate self-sufficiency and prosperity for their communities, businesses, institutions, and countries.

In the 19th century, that meant connecting people and trade by building roads and railways. In the 20th century, it meant building the capacity of national governments to meet their citizens’ needs, managing funds to support service delivery in difficult contexts and delivering world-class humanitarian aid. In the 21st century, we’re continuing that work and investigating the potential of frontier technologies to accelerate the pace of change for our partners.

BACKGROUND

Sierra Leone is one the world’s most vulnerable countries to the effects of climate change.

Coastal erosion, heavy rainfall, extreme heat are the main consequences of global climate change which is exacerbated by local factors such as land encroachment which denudes the land of trees and further threatens biodiversity.

The Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) has made impressive commitments to combat the impact of climate change, including pledging to reduce national Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 25% by 2050. This commitment necessitates concerted effort in resource mobilisation for a multisectoral application of climate change mitigation and adaptation measures to protect the people from life threatening consequences.

Crown Agents in Sierra Leone (CAiSL) has been a partner of the GoSL for over 40 years, supporting national development goals on a range of issues including, presently:

  • health care delivery
  • management and distribution of essential medicines
  • research on cause of infant death
  • provision of solar energy for health clinics and hospitals
  • revenue management reform
  • innovating of critical functions to improve efficiency including the use of drone technology for verification of forestation

CAiSL supported the GoSL during the Ebola outbreak, working with emergency support to provide field hospitals and ensure the timely provision of emergency medicines.
