SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The “SHE LEADS” – Gender Transformative Animator will coordinate and ensure effective and timely implementation of activities in line with the agreed budget and project proposal. They will be adept at facilitating collaboration and coordination among key stakeholders and will be able to respond quickly and appropriately to challenges and issues as they arise.

They will also be responsible for the coordination of gender-transformative community development activities in programmes; supervise and monitor partner activities within the Moyamba, Koinadugu and the Western Area; and also contribute to Plan International becoming a recognized voice for child rights especially equality for girls. They will coordinate and give support to the community people in the project targeted communities in Western Area of Freetown together with the   Implementing partners. They will ensure timely and accurate execution of detailed work plans and other technical documents.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Provide adequate support in the preparation and submission of the monthly and quarterly work plans and progress reports detailing tasks (including monitoring plans)
    • Attend and fully participate in coordination with the Project Manager and Programme Implementation and Influencing Programme Area Manager to all partner’s activities to ascertain their realization




  • Produce activities realization report for all partners’ activities to support the liquidation of related expenses.
  • Supervise and monitor activities of all implementing and strategic partner Organizations in Moyamba, Koinadugu and the Western Area to ensure their services lead to value for money.
  • Ensure that the community leaders and stakeholders understand Plan International works in the communities
  • Responsible for the proper filling and storage of project documents in Moyamba, Koinadugu and the Western Area.
  • Ensure that Child-Centered Community Development (CCCD) approached is evident in all SHE LEADS project activities at community level.
  • Responsible for the initiation of payment request, purchase requisition in accordance with the approved budget and Grant mapping
  • Identify capacity gaps in Children, Community Volunteers, Community-based organization (CBOs), Civil Society Organization (CSOs), Local Non-Governmental Organization (LNGOs) and government partners and proposes the appropriate interventions to address the gaps especially in girls’ rights.
  • Facilitate the preparation of gender-transformative projects (POs) and manage them to meet set objectives.
  • Coordinate the quarterly project report together with the Project Manager, Programme Implementation and Influencing Area Manager and the Programme Implementation and Influencing Manager.
  • Participate in and support Plan’s local partner implementation of activities, in order to increase the impact of SHE LEADS Project.
  • Ensure gender is mainstreamed into all section development-related program activities in the district/chiefdom and maintains gender sensitivity towards staff and plan associates; Ensure Child protection is mainstreamed into all community development-related program activities in the district/chiefdom to meet Plan goals;
  • Ensure CCCD is embedded in project activities in the district/chiefdom to meet Plan goals; Work extensively with local communities, ensuring that Plan’s presence in those communities is meaningful and that all Plan project activities and other initiatives achieve their intended objectives





 TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE

 Qualifications and Experience:

 Essential

  • University degree, or equivalent practical experience in interdisciplinary areas within human rights, social science, and development studies.
  • At least three (3) years of demonstrable experience in development work preferably in INGO Previous knowledge of managing similar projects.
  • Capability to communicate ideas and technical information on child protection issues
  • Good facilitation skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
  • Strong understanding of gender equality programming and meaningful child participation.
  • Knowledge of development challenges and contexts in Sierra Leone, particularly child rights, girl’s rights, and child protection.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and supportively without the need for close supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in participatory approaches to community development
  • Good knowledge of computer skills and use of relevant software and other applications e.g. Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheet, database, outlook), internet, SAP.
  • Capability to ride a motorbike in difficult terrain within the project communities.
  • Experience in community-led approaches.

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the Netherland Government
  • Understands Plan International’s work and implements processes and practices that support the achievement of organizational objectives
  • Knowledge of local dialects within the district
  • Hold a type C driving license
