Sierra Leone Social Marketing and Development Agency is seeking to recruit a top-notch professional toΒ  fulfil the position of Project Officer – Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights based at projectΒ  operational sites (outside Freetown) to deliver the tasks outlined below:

ROLE PROFILEΒ Β

Location: Port Loko District

Travel required: 50%

Effective Date: 1stΒ March 2023

 

ROLE PURPOSEΒ 

The Project District Officer will be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of activities of theΒ  Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health project at the field district level. The project promotesΒ  Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Comprehensive Sexuality Education with theΒ  aim to empower girls and boys to decide on their bodies and lives.

DIMENSIONS OF THE ROLEΒ Β 

The project is a 3 years EU development project that will be implemented by SLaDA and will involveΒ  social norm change at the community level. The role will contribute to the quality planning,Β  implementation, monitoring and reporting of project activities in the project’s operational districts. TheΒ  role will be supported by the Project Manager. The District Project Officer will be working with children,Β  teachers, community stakeholders and SRHR service providers, with a particular focus on adolescent girlsΒ  in the implementation communities.

ACCOUNTABILITIESΒ Β 

  • Conduct field visits as required by the project
  • Conduct forum discussions in coordination with SRHR service providers/stakeholders at the districtΒ  level for adolescent boys and girls,
  • Responsible for mentoring and coaching young girls in the community
  • Support strategies for advocacy and resource mobilization in the SRHR sector
  • Support the development of messages for parents/caregivers on supporting their children’s learning andΒ  well-being.
  • Support in mobilizing key SRHR actors/partners and participate in sectoral meetings
  • Organize district and community-level consultations with SRHR stakeholders including Parent TeachersΒ  Associations (PTA), School Management Committees (SMCs), SLaDA Role Profile for Mother’s ClubsΒ  (MC), Public Health Units (PHU), teachers and as well as school pupils, and youth groups.Β  Hold score carding activities at the chiefdom and district levels focusing on child participation with regards to theΒ  project, including children with disabilities.
  • To conduct regular coordination meetings (biweekly/monthly) with relevant stakeholders
  • Β To collect relevant project data by using the agreed monitoring tools.
  • To provide weekly and monthly monitoring data to the M&E Officer and the Project Manager.
  • To timely report any issue with monitoring data collection to the M&E Officer and the ProjectΒ  Manager.
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People andΒ  Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully in their area of responsibility.
  • Ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under policies and theΒ  SLaDA Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported andΒ  managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures
  • Promptly report any safeguarding and child protection issues through the SLaDA protection andΒ  safeguarding focal point.

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGEΒ Β 

EssentialΒ 

  • University degree or its equivalent (from a recognized institution) in the relevant field of SocialΒ  Sciences, Economics, Development, Gender or other similar,
  • A minimum of 3 years working on sexual and reproductive health and rights projects in Sierra Leone
  • Β  Β Experience working with SRHR stakeholders such as PHU officials.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentations
  • Strong interest and willingness to engage in safeguarding and gender equality-related issues toΒ  challenge norms and behaviours
  • Passion for gender transformative programming, mission-driven work and personal values aligned withΒ  SLaDA
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to coordinate partners in the programme

 

DesirableΒ Β 

  • Experience in data collection within SRHR projects.
  • Experience in working with young people especially adolescent girls
  • Experience in Comprehensive Sexuality Education
  • Experience working in an EU-funded programme
  • Experience working with Award Management Systems
