BACKGROUND 

2 Young Lives (2YL) is a mentoring scheme for pregnant teenagers and adolescent mothers in Sierra Leone.




As part of the NIHR Global Partnership fund, 2YL will undergo a pilot trial in 12 sites across Sierra Leone.  We will compare the outcomes for pregnant teenagers and their babies in 6 sites where 2YL is running,  compared to 6 sites where 2YL is not running. The trial will be targeting the districts of Koinadugu,  Bonthe, Moyamba, and the Western Area and be collecting detailed routine data on women aged under

18 at both PHU and hospital facility level.

The District 2 Young Lives (2YL) Data Collector will work in the district under the management of the  Welbodi Partnership (WP) Programmes Manager, with guidance and support from the project research  assistant, and in collaboration with the project PhD student in all sites and implementation Lifeline  Nehemiah Projects (LNP) team in the intervention sites. The post holder will be leading data collection,  data inputting, and other required research activities. She/he will be representing the programme in the  district and ensuring respectful and professional engagement with medical professionals from the District  Health Management Team (DHMT), Hospitals and PHUs. Based in her/his district, this role will require  days spent in the field in PHUs. This is a part-time position; the data collector is expected to work 22.5  hours per week and will be paid accordingly. Candidates are required to have an in-depth knowledge of  the Sierra Leone healthcare system in their target district, including stakeholder and community dynamics. All research data collection methods should ensure that data is valid, reliable and credible, and in line with  ethical approvals.

Vacancy Announcement: District Data Collector 2 YOUNG LIVES TASKS & RESPONSIBILTIES 

Working alongside the 2YoungLives Research Assistant, the District Data Collector will be responsible for the day-to-day collection of routine maternity data on the under-18 age group:

▪ Maintaining strong contact with medical professionals from the DHMT, Hospitals and PHUs

▪ Collecting clinical data from the DHMT, hospitals and PHUs

▪ Inputting, uploading and submitting completed research forms on the trial data collection  software, and, if required, compiling findings in a format required by the trial manager (Training  on use of software is provided).

▪ Recognizing and reporting in a timely fashion any problems in obtaining data

▪ Liaising with local authorities and community Chiefs and representing the programme at district  level

▪ Liaising with Welbodi 2YoungLives Research Assistant regarding information/data gathered,  producing reports and maintaining a strong, weekly line of communication and engagement

▪ Adhering to confidentiality procedures, policies and legal requirements when collecting, storing  and sharing data

 

 

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

A trained State Registered Community Health Officer (CHO), Nurse or Midwife without  pincode or an individual holding university Bachelor’s in public health or equivalent.

 

 

EXPERIENCE: 

Familiarity with maternity and child health routine data collection (eg: filling in birth  registers)

Experience in health service delivery, research or NGO project implementation in Sierra  Leone, especially with women and girls .

 

 

KNOWLEDGE: 

Knowledge of district dynamics, communities, Chiefdoms and geography

Knowledge of DHMTs, PHUs and Hospitals in district.

 

 

SKILLS: 

Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and able to pick up the required skills to input  into novel data collection software

Ability to self-motivate and work autonomously within the scope of the role with  minimal supervision.

Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal communication skills, and demonstrated ability to  work collaboratively across different hierarchy lines.

Ability to work well under pressure and deliver deadlines whilst maintaining an excellent  level of written and oral communication and respectful working relationships

OTHER: 

Fluency in language of the district’s specific language(s).

Confidence, diplomacy, and sensitivity in working with local authorities, healthcare  providers and senior staff from partner organizations including the Government. A team player who shows enthusiasm and is committed to the goals and principles of  Welbodi Partnership.

Must not hold a pin code or should not be a current civil servant employed and actively  working for the Government of Sierra Leone. Midwives, Nurses and CHOs without a  pincode may apply to avoid dual employment.
