JOB SUMMARY
The Community Interviewer/ VASA will report directly to the CHAMPS Supervisor (MS team); and he/she is responsible for performing active surveillance to identify under-five death, stillbirth, training of CR/FR corps, following all protocols of the surveillance project in enrolling participants, gaining consent, data collection, verbal and social autopsy, reports, participating in family feedback – all as per established protocols. This position is highly team oriented and all candidates must be willing to be part of an active team.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
● Perform active surveillance to identify under-five death and stillbirth within the Makeni Catchment;
● Maintaining the Death Notification process – interacting with the Facility Staff on a regular basis and supporting the use of the 117 pathways;
● Immediate follow-up of all notifications from 117 and directly from any other sources;
● Processing the death notification through appropriate forms on tablet: Death Management and eligibility determination;
● Interact with families to obtain Informed consents;
● Facilitate movement of the corpse to the Lab following all protocols;
● Support in MITS collection by supporting the family and corpse movement.
● Facilitate in the transportation of the bodies to family location after MITS procedures;
● Perform Verbal and Social Autopsy and liaise with CA team for integration of information
● Perform Family Feedback with team after DeCoDe
● Work closely with data management and information technology staff using electronic tools to provide high-quality data and observe requirements for data protection and confidentiality;
● Take active role in training and Review Meetings and connecting with Facility Reporters;
● Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and;
● Any other duties as may be assigned by his/her supervisor.
RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience
Minimum Certificate in State Enrolled Community Health Nurse (SECHN) from an accredited and approved Institution/University.
• Minimum 2 years proven working experience with an NGO, INGO or Health Facility in similar position.
• High level of sensitivity and empathy for bereaved families
• Good problem-solving skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal and good teamwork spirit.
• Must be fluent in speaking Krio and local language within the area of operation
• Proficiency in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook or ability to learn
