Title: Neglected Tropical Disease (Junior NTD Program Assistant, Koinadugu)

Level F 5 DPM

Level of Responsibility: NTD Program (NTDP) Coordinator

Location: Freetown with frequent travel upcountry




Job Summary: The Junior NTDP Assistant will work closely with the NTDP Coordinator, M&E Coordinator, Social Mobilization Officer and the Sustainability Officer under the overall leadership of the NTDP Manager to provide programmatic support to Helen Keller’s NTD team and the national NTDP.

Ensure supervision of NTDP activities in Koinadugu district with the Helen Keller Koinadugu lead, work with District Health Management Team (DHMT) and NTD focal point on recommendations, planning and joint supervision of activities.

General Responsibilities:

  • Provide support prior and during all NTDP activities: Mass Drug Administrations, Pre-Transmission Assessment Surveys (pre-TAS), and Transmission Assessment Surveys (TAS);

  • Prepare posters and power points for review meetings, and international conferences;

  • Ensure effective use of Pico Videos during social mobilization events for Mass Drug Administration (MDA) in 14 districts and Pre-TAS, and TAS in selected districts;

  • Take photos of all meetings and trainings in Koinadugu district and submit those of appropriate quality (composition and lighting) with tags to the Communication Officer for HKI-SL's Facebook page;

  • Support in the monitoring of activities in line with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) unit.

  • Work closely with the M&E Coordinator to ensure reliable data for all targeted NTDs including performance monitoring, PHU-level coverage in Koinadugu district;

  • Participate in quarterly conversations to connect and annual performance plans with supervisor for submission to HR without delays and the need for repeated reminders;

  • Regularly participate in the Friday Comms meetings and share quality photos and appropriate tags with Facebook postings;

  • Work with the social mobilization and communications team to update all IEC materials for Onchocerciasis, Schistosomiasis (SCH) and Soil Transmitted Helminthes (STH) for trainings and community meetings with Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Community Drug Distributors (CDDs) and ensure they are reviewed and approved by the CD;

  • Compile and file documents accurately;

  • Performs other duties as assigned.




 

IR1 Planning and Management

 

  • Work with the NTDP and Focal Person of Koinadugu district to ensure activities are carried out on time and according to FHI360 quality improvement;

  • Support training of districts supervisors, peripheral health unit staff, CHWs and CDDs;

  • Draft monthly work plan and compile all field report from the team and draft comprehensive report of the review meeting and team meetings for submission to the deputy NTD coordinator before the end of the month;

  • Assist the NTDP coordinator in the planning and organizing of DSAs (Pre-TAS, TAS and SCH and STH impact assessment);

 

Support the quality improvements (QIs) required by FHI360

 

  • Participate in QI coaches training;

  • Support DHMT Koinadugu to implement QI activities prior and during MDA, and DSAs;

Support gender mainstreaming for NTD program

  • Actively engage in awareness-raising and diversifying delivery channels;

  • Support the integration of gender equity into all NTD trainings;

  • Support data collection disaggregation by sex.

IR2

  • Support implementation of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine enhanced community engagements prior to DSAs and MDA (including rumour tracking, power mapping and participant observation) in the districts;

  • Promote ‘social listening’ as a paradigm shidt in the training of CDDs and CHWs;

  • Support the Koinadugu team lead to cascade the social science training on NTDs in Koinadugu district to enhance community engagement and avoid a further failed pre-TAS.




Skills Required

 

  • Improved computing skills especially MS office Word, Excel and Power Point;

  • Improved report writing skills;

  • Improved multimedia skills with special attention to translating jingles to Susu;

  • Communication skills especially using, emails, mass media and local language translations.

 

Academic qualification

 

Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Public Health
