Children of the Nations-Sierra Leone (COTN-SL) is a National Christian Non-Governmental Organization operating in the Upper Banta Chiefdom, Moyamba District with it headquarter offices in Marjay town, Freetown. The vision of COTN-SL is to raise children that will transform nations and its mission in partnering with nationals to provide holistic, Christ- centered care for orphaned and destitute children , enable them to create positive and lasting change in the nations.
The Management of COTN-SL is recruiting to fill the following position:
I. Resident House Mother.
II. Clinical Nurse.
III. Guidance counsellor.
Successful applicant is expected to work at the operational site.

I. Job Title: Home Mother.
Department: Children Home.
Immediate supervisor: Home Father.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: As a home mother, you will be responsible to manage the affairs of the house cooking, cleaning and assisting in the care of the Children. The house mother assist in creating the family-style, stable, nurturing environment that children need to develop into healthy, rational, and well-balanced adults.
RESPONSIBLITIES: House mother must follow the childrenβs home standard operating procedures and ensure compliance with the childrenβs home standards of service.
PROVIDING A SAFE, WELL MANAGE HOME.
Children will be coming from a background where there is loss, abuse, addiction or neglect, as such, a feeling of security and stability will be essential. House mother contribute to an environment which children can call a home a place where they are looked after, able to interact and feel happy. Under the direction of the House mother, assist in the management, assist in the management of the daily schedules and activities of the home, in particular:
Create a well-balanced, weekly menu. Purchase needed supplies locally, involving children in the processes.
Assist in organizing stores and ensuring that supplies are stores away as appropriate.
Ensure that the nutritious meals are served on time in hygienic conditions.
Ensure that the kitchen and equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and stored. Ensure that the house is well maintained and kept to a high standard of cleanliness.
Ensure there is sufficient drinking water for the children. Ensure that trash is disposed of in a sanitary manner.
Ensure that childrenβs belongings and household items are well managed and maintained.
Ensure that laundry is washed, dried and stored, assisting children as appropriate for their age and development.
Support each childβs development for key life skills, for example, food preparation, personal hygiene, gardening, home maintenance, care of personal property, discipline etc.
Act as an advocate for each child in your house, notifying your supervisor when have concerns about a childβs health, safety, wellbeing and or behavior. Ensure that children are kept from harm and abuse.
Abide by the child protection policy and ensure others interacting with children to too.
Provide love and support
Being displaced from your home and taken into care can be very traumatizing for any child. The love and support provided by understanding and reliable trustworthy adults is an invaluable asset you can provide to the well-being of the child.
Specific responsibilities:
Stay in residence at the childrenβs home when required, to cover for scheduled time off.
Love children unconditionally, irrespective of behavior, background, culture, health, age, gender, disability, religion, sexuality, or political view.
Develop positive, supportive relationships with the children.
As requested by your supervisor, accompany children when they require medical attention, ensuring they receive the care they need and helping them understand the situation as appropriate for their age and development. This may include staying with children in a referral hospital.
Encourage childrenβs spiritual development
House mothers are to help create an environment which encourages children to develop a vibrant and authentic faith in Jesus Christ.
Specific responsibilities:
Regularly join with the children in prayer and devotions.
Attend Sunday services and weekly bible studies with children.
Managing childrenβs behavior
Challenging behavior can offer be an issue with children in alternative care. They may have had negative past experience of being parented and not be used to responding to instructions. They may also be vulnerable or have had traumatic pasts.
Specific responsibilities:
Be familiar with the house motherβs system to handle challenging and dynamic behavioral problems of children demand for collaborations, as may be required.
Attend meetings and be a team player.
House mothers work as part of a team supervised by home coordinator to manage confidential information.
Specific responsibilities:
Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and prayer gatherings.
Deal responsibly with confidential information.
Take advantage of professional development training opportunities provided by local partnerships, international partnerships or children of the Nations international.
Complete other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS/BASIC SKILLS
Applicants must have excellent, verbal and written communication skills.
He or she must have knowledge in childcare
Must have an effective and good decision-making abilities.
Must not be convicted with any criminal act or abuse related offence or crime.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Teachers Certificate, Home Management certificate or its Equivalent.
II. POSITION/TITLE: Clinical Nurse.
LOCATION: Upper Banta Mokelleh, Ngolala Junction
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Physical Care Coordinator
WORKING DAYS: Monday to Friday.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY: To teach health education in the school at the Nursery, Primary, Junior and Secondary school.
RESPONSIBILITIES
β’ Responsible for providing safe, compassionate medical care to community school children, Home children, and VPP children.
β’ Report for duty to the clinic during the posted hours.
β’ Fully comply with the COTNI Physical Care Clinic Standards of service and the COTN-SL SOP.
β’ Will visit the COTN Childrenβs home daily after school from hours of 3pm to 5pm in order to provide health promotion education, make health rounds and address health concerns.
β’ Will serve as an advocate for VPP and Home children during referrals to Serabu.
β’ Visits local villages to sensitize and educate VPP parentβs regarding child rights and responsibilities in the clinic.
β’ Helps to perform Annual Health Care screenings of all Home children and VPP children.
β’ Help to document all medical care provided.
β’ Secondary students are taught how to manage their own medical, dental, and mental health needs in preparation for living independently.
β’ Help to implement de-worming schedule for all COTN Home and VPP children.
β’ Coordinate well with colleague nurse on daily routines of the clinic.
β’ Require to perform any other official duty assigned by your supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
Minimum qualification of SECHN.
Experience in working in Child Development is essential to this role.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent skills in the use of Microsoft office packages especially word, excel and power point.
Experience in providing training/facilitation is desirable.
III. POSITION/TITLE: Guidance Counsellor.
LOCATION: Ngolala Junction, Upper Banta chiefdom, Moyamba District, Serra Leone.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Social Care Coordinator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY: The post holder will support the social care coordinator to provide Mental health and psycho-social support towards raising emotionally healthy children and improve the performance of both pupils and teachers. Therefore, the Guidance Counselor is someone with outstanding assessment and listening skills, empathy, and sound decision-making with organizational and motivational skills. A role model and committed to biblical values and ethos of COTN-SL.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
β’ Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to advise and assist school pupils with academic, ethics and vocational development.
β’ Help pupils with special needs to develop a plan for their academic career that corresponds with their skills and interests.
β’ Evaluate school pupilsβ attributes and assist them in realizing their objectives.
β’ Develop and implement counseling strategies with contemporary methods of mentoring.
β’ Identify behavioral problems and act appropriately to remedy the situation.
β’ Pay attention to societal and cultural differences in all student matters.
β’ Cooperate with parents, teaching and administrative and partners in the nurture and development of the pupils.
β’ Arrange and schedule orientation programs for both pupils and teachers.
β’ Implement and facilitate educational and training workshops for school leaders and teachers.
β’ Facilitate communication between parents, Teachers, school administrators and pupils about behavior and academic problems.
Qualification/Experience.
β’ Bachelorβs Degree in a behavioral, social science or education field.
β’ 2 years of work experience either as a counselor, Nurse/Public health Practitioner or teacher in a school or any formal environment.
β’ Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
β’ Motivational leader who displays sound judgment, biblical wisdom, and attention to detail.
β’ Confident interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
β’ Remarkable professionalism and solid work ethics.
