Background
Conservation Society of Sierra Leone is looking for a reliable, dedicated, honest and hardworking personality with required competencies and skills who can work consistently with the values of the organization to fill the position of Field Officer in the NuCAMPS project under the overall guidance of the Head of Programme, and direct supervision of the Project Manager. The Field Officer will support CSSL’s efforts in creating equitable Partnerships with communities, local and consortium partners that relate to the project’s components. She/he will be responsible for coordination of field activities and effective communication for the smooth running of the project at the project site.
Responsibilities:
Objective 1: Implement Project Activities at the field level
- Provide day-to- day oversight and support towards project implementation, monitoring and supervision of field activities across project communities, in collaboration with project partners, government and community stakeholders against intended objectives, targets, and timelines.
- Contribute to the carrying out of formative research, baseline assessments, and community mapping, including development of evaluation protocols, tools, training, data collection.
- Support the development of an evidence-informed CSSL strategy, approaches and activities to influence shifts in community norms, attitudes and behaviours in support of learning by households and communities, in close coordination with other technical team;
- Contribute to development of detailed implementation plans/work plans and budgets for partners and CSSL supported interventions;
- Facilitate and maintain relationship with community leaders, community members and structures such as NUCAMPS core groups and community focal persons;
- Explain the project’s activities and objectives to local partners and communities
Objective 2: Reporting and archiving
- Prepare required periodic report for CSSL on all field related activities
- Report to line manager about any problems and constraints during the implementation of activities
- Report the activities on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to the project manager
- Keep all the records of the activities, input delivery /supply and ensure the quality and quantity of inputs according to the ToRs
- In order to avoid potential negative implications of NuCAMPS, protection considerations should be incorporated. Protection instruments such as safe access and security of the location of work, ensuring vulnerable groups or individuals are not excluded or exploited
- Any other official tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Objective 2: Participate in the evaluation and reorientation of the project
- Participate in all project activities including meetings
- Analyze and build on experiences in order to share the lessons learned
- Propose new directions for the project to the Project Manager
Qualifications and Experience
The Field Officer is required to possess the following qualities and to maintain compliance with CSSL Rules and policies at all times:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Economics, Rural Development, Social work, Natural Resource Management or a related field
- At least 3 years of relevant experience at national or international level in community development and civic engagement, dialogue and/or mediation, human rights/access to justice/community security, or related area.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with community stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in team and under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Fluency in English with knowledge of local languages in the targeted area is an advantage.

- Familiarity with the importance of gender equality and social inclusion and demonstrated ability in integration of gender equality and social inclusion in biodiversity conservation efforts;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and adherence to cultural sensitivity and diplomacy;
- Able to work under pressure with minimum supervision to deliver deliverable in a timely manner;
- Excellent conceptual, oral and written communication skills; and
- Proficiency in English.
Functional Competencies:
- Strong Programme formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation skills
- Tracked Working experience in conflict situations and strong gender integration skills
- Strong knowledge of Results Based Management
- Ability to synthesize program performance data and produce analytical reports in order to inform management and strategic decision-making
- Strong writing and organizational skills and ability to pay close attention to detail
- Good conflict resolution skills
