Position Title: Finance Assistant
Duty Station: Freetown, Sierra Leone
Classification: General Service, Grade G5
Type of Appointment: One Year Fixed Term, with a possibility of extension

Context

IOM Sierra Leone operates under the West and Central Africa Regional Office, focusing on country-specific programs aligned with regional strategic priorities. Since 2001, IOM has engaged in migration management and governance in Sierra Leone, with an emphasis on fostering safe, orderly, and well-managed migration.

Core Functions / Responsibilities

  1. Manage financial resources by monitoring assets, reserves, and funds in compliance with IOM rules.
  2. Assist in annual budget preparation and revisions.
  3. Extract and input data into financial systems.
  4. Provide guidance on accounting and financial issues.
  5. Prepare payroll by executing validity checks.
  6. Review payment requests to ensure authorization and supporting documentation.
  7. Create new vendor accounts in PRISM.
  8. Verify vendor claims for compliance with IOM policies.
  9. Perform claim verifications against documentation.
  10. Assist in preparing financial reports.
  11. Provide assistance to staff for travel, expense claims, and document retrieval.
  12. Ensure proper documentation of payments.
  13. Manage the office's petty cash.
  14. Perform other related duties as needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field with three years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in finance, accounting, or business administration.
  • Experience with international institutions and familiarity with IPSAS and SAP/Oracle is desirable.
  • Knowledge of UN/NGO accounting systems and procedures is advantageous.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail, organization, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
