The Role: Communication and Media Coordinator

Save the Children is recruiting for an experienced, committed, dynamic, creative, and innovative Communication and Media Coordinator with a passion for communication, media, and technology; to provide technical support to the Country Office for communication and media activities. S/he will guide and support the Advocacy and Communication team to increase visibility for Save the Children Sierra Leone, by show casing our work nationally and globally using communication for advocacy and campaigning and building strong partnerships with national and international media.





The Communication and Media Coordinator will lead the development of communication products for donors, members, government and other high-level stakeholders. S/he will lead in building partnerships and engagements with media houses; planning meetings, trainings, workshops and other media actions maintaining the organisation’s policies, protocols and rules of engagement with the media. The postholder will also be responsible for building stronger ties with the regional communication and media leadership to strengthen country office capacity and visibility.

The postholder will also support the team to strengthen Child Participation and meaningful engagement in the country office programme. S/he will develop strategies that are child-led and child friendly for advocacy and campaigning to achieve our ambition for children. S/he will champion the inclusion of children’s voices, opinions and contributions to advocacy and campaigns as well as promote meaningful child participation by building the capacity of staff and partners during the design, implementation and evaluation of the country programme.





 QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Qualified Communication professional with strong background in Media. Applicants with a minimum of 3 years communication/media experience in a corporate or an NGO environment

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience of developing communication/ media campaign plans, with the knowledge and understanding of a range of communication tactics, and a good track record of implementing successful media campaigns.
  • Experience of constructing messages for multiple media including print, web, video and audio presentations.
  • Excellent understanding of the communication/media campaigning environment in Sierra Leone
  • Understanding of how to work with, and for children as well as connect children’s issues with public opinion and actions
  • Demonstrable understanding of child participation in campaigning, child activism tactics and motivations
  • Demonstrating the ability to identify the necessary steps towards an ambitious goal.
  • Demonstrable creative ability in accessing new opportunities, expertise and ideas
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing and negotiation
  • Highly developed analytical writing skills and ability to analyse complex data and to summarise and communicate them in ways that are accessible to a range of audiences

Major Responsibility

    • Ensure the development and implementation of a flexible and result oriented communications strategy for both internal and external communications.
    • Generate ideas and create content for social media/digital channels. Develop content that is easily understandable and readers can connect with. Write and edit programme participant/client stories, scripts for videos, blogs, case studies, factsheets, capacity statements, and annual reports. Maintain an editorial calendar and oversee the monthly and yearly content production process.
    • Regularly monitor the Country-specific web page and sections to identify information that needs to be updated, and follow through with the Head Office Comms team for keeping the website up to date.
    • Capture and disseminate knowledge/best practices from the project/programme on a regular basis.
    • Provide communications support during emergency situations and crisis management.
    • Conceive media strategies and plan/implement those strategies to enhance the positioning of BRAC Country with the media, ministries, partners organisations and donors.
    • Conceptualise and organise special events or BRAC Country with a view to reaching wider audience, and compile and generate relevant materials.

We are seeking a senior executive to assume the role of Managing Director, Social Marketing who will have the overall responsibility for the management and operations of the social marketing entity of the organization in a bid to restructure it into a successful business entity. This person will be responsible for providing strategic, financial and operational leadership, and will work to evolve our Social Marketing Entity into an organization of choice in the local context.

Reporting directly to the Country Director, the successful candidate will drive our Social Marketing ventures from its current state into a sustainable and stable organization. The MD – (CEO for Social Marketing) will be responsible for developing short, mid, and long-term strategies; culture and organizational development while delivering financial, operational and social impact goals against objectives. The person in this role will be responsible for leading the growth of the entity and solidify its stainability as a business/ social enterprise in collaboration with CARE Senior Leadership and the Interim Management Committee (IMC) which will later be transformed into the Board of Directors.





The key responsibilities of the Managing Director –  Social Marketing are:

    • Vision and StrategyDetermine a short-term strategy for our social enterprise entity while developing a Long-Term Strategy for social enterprise of health products. In this role, you will make key decisions around product diversification, development and brand for quality improvement. To do so you will also:
      • Work on product diversification development and brand for quality improvement
      •  Develop and review the distribution strategy for the various health products in collaboration with direct reports
      • Design a product distribution roadmap and roll-out, including promotional communication strategy and determine pricing for the various products in conjunction with determining sales, profit and cash flow targets for the next 12, 24 and 36 months

To be successful in this role you will:

Possess experience and education in leading a Social Marketing Organization. Possess a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent.  A Master’s degree is preferred.  Have a track record of executive management success and at least 5 years of experience leading/managing a local or national organization, preferably for-Profit, including 2 years of experience in social marketing. You must have held positions responsible for profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management and general finance and budgeting.





Have the communication, and negotiating skills needed to manage international donor funded projects, donor partners and stakeholders. Opportunity

CARE Sierra Leone is seeking an experienced Social Marketing Operations Program Manager to work closely with senior management to develop, implement marketing initiatives across the country and oversee all operation programs of the project. Create timeline, manage schedules, and evaluate team members’ input to achieve the set goals of the project.





The key responsibilities of social marketing and operations program Manager are:

  • To plan and oversee marketing project and campaign creative turnover process/procedure within the organization that complying with all CARE Sierra Leone’s regulations.
  • The Social Marketing and operations program Manager is responsible for executing data-driven initiatives to maximize the efficiency of marketing campaigns.
  • Have a keen eye on budgets and budgetary changes and ensure that communicating changes in an order process to relevant parties.
  • Define CARE policies and implement training that will enhance the growth of your supervisee.
  • Oversee hiring objectives and job description creation.
  • Stay on top of employment trends, legal issues and best practices

To be successful in this role you will: 

Possess the necessary education and experience: Have at least five (5) years of NGO or UN agencies marketing and operation experience. Possess an advanced degree in marketing, public health, development, communication for development including M&E experience.





Day-to-day operational management skills: Strong management skill of the running of the project including supply chain management, product design, forecasting, quality control, and delivery management.

Be a problem solver and critical thinker. You must be able to clearly identify and define the different levels of problem solving and resolution. Think holistically with a vision and use your analytics and reporting skills,

Be a leader with influence. Demonstrated leadership, coaching and negotiation skills with internal and external partners with the ability to be a team player.

Know your systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word and good skills at using administrative software applications (PeopleSoft experience will be preferred).

Opportunity

CARE Sierra Leone is seeking three experienced Regional Coordinator to fill roles in Makeni and Bo. The responsibilities of the regional coordinator roles are to manage the administrative tasks of the Social Marketing project at the regional level. He/she should be able to work closely with project managers to create comprehensive action plans concerning resources, budgets, and timeframes for projects.

The key responsibilities of the Regional Coordinator are:

  • To support service delivery processes and issues by working with colleagues and partners complying with all CARE Sierra Leone’s regulations.
  • Process the project expense and revenue invoices along with finance, accounting, legal and external partners.
  • Help to create project s and schedule and manage contract process.
  • Achieve internal progress targets and enhance social marketing product and customer service quality with WASH, supply chain and regional management.
  • Determine key regional resources to aid operation and enhancements.
  • Coordinate meetings with stakeholders, corporate personnel, and administrators.

Interface with regional customers to assure projects logistics, readiness, quality, and delivery.

To be successful in this role you will:

International Non-governmental organization, Action Against Hunger (ACF) has been working to fight undernutrition and support communities affected by crisis across the globe for almost 40 years and across nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger established its presence in both Liberia and Sierra Leone in 1991 during the Civil War and since then has been operational in the two countries by implementing various humanitarian and development programs related to health, nutrition, food security/livelihoods, WASH and advocacy geared towards the reduction of the prevalence rates of under-nutrition in both countries. Action Against Hunger collaborate with other international organizations, National organizations, the private sector, the line ministries and authorities at all level as well as the communities. ACF has people centred approach and work with the affected communities in program development and implementations. The position will be based in either Freetown or Monrovia and will cover both countries.

Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as a Compliance and Partnerships Coordinator, to serve as a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and is responsible for Compliance and Risk Management Strengthening of Action Against Hunger in Sierra Leone and Liberia Mission.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Identify incoherencies and non-compliance to Action Against Hunger Internal Control Guidelines and Procedures (mainly in Accounting, HR and Logistics departments) internally and amongst Partners (local and international):

Strengthening of the Partnership approach of Action Against Hunger with local and international Partners:

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other related tasks as required and responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task;

Maintenance of high technical standards;

Conduct all duties in a professional manner following Action Against Hunger staff regulations, Action Against Hunger mandate and charter including promotion of gender equality.

Gender Action

Contribute to the development of necessary gender methods and tools, such as overall guidelines and guidelines for specific processes.

Demonstrate experience and/or personal commitment to promoting gender equality within the Action Against Hunger work environment

Works with project teams teams to ensure access and participation of women, men, girls and boys at risk to Action Against Hunger’s response, recovery and rehabilitation work

Arrange for the preparation of special reports as needed, on particular gender issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Masters Degree in International Development or Action Against Hunger sector related field;or first degree with good experience in fields related to institutional compliance and risk, audit, business administration, international development etc

Minimum five years of previous similar roles work experience in international development, humanitarian assistance or related sector;

Knowledge of Project Management Cycle and project management tools

Excellent written and oral communications skills in English language;

Well-organized, attentive to detail, and able to manage multiple tasks concurrently;

Competence with Windows, Microsoft Office;

Familiarity with Agreements and Budget development;

Previous experience working with international partners;

Strong organizational and research skills with a broad understanding of various program sectors and activities;

MAIN OBJECTIVES/ RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  1. Media Management

  • Under the supervision of the Field Communications Manager, the FCO establishes and maintains regular relations with key local media contacts (journalists, bloggers, photographers, and cameramen).

  • He/ she will handle local media requests and contact local media proactively to pitch MSF materials.

  • He/she organizes events for local media (Press conference, Press briefing…).

  • Media Alert

  • The FCO monitors local media and flags significant articles, trends, news or reports of importance for MSF or on the context to Head(s) of Mission and Field Communications Manager (FCM).

  • He/she produces reports on the local media landscape (key media, audience numbers, political affiliation, ownership, freedom of speech, use of social media) and regularly reports on new developments.

  • Content Diffusion

  • The FCO actively diffuses MSF content in the country in local languages and among local media. If judged applicable.

  • Content Production

  • The FCO supervises the production of local communication tools and products (leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots, articles, photos, videos) according to local strategy and budget.

  • In particular, he/she will help identify the right communications tools and will adapt/translate communications materials to targeted local audiences.

  • Internal Communication

  • If needed, he/ she can edit the production of internal communication tools (newsletter, etc.) under the supervision of the FCM.




REQUIRED CRITERIA:

  • Education: Essential: degree in Journalism, Communications or related university degree.

  • Experience: Essential: previous working experience of at least two years in communications, journalism or public relations in the country.

  • Essential: previous working experience in dealing with media in the country.

  • Essential languages: Krio and English- fluent
