1.) Procurement Officer

 

Country Administrative Support Units (CSUs) have been established in the organizational structure to assist managers and staff in fully discharging their responsibilities in the Global Management Information System (GSM) environment and to ensure compliance with institutional policies, procedures, rules and regulations on all administrative and financial matters and transactions in the context of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.




PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this post is to ensure the provision of procurement, logistics and procurement services on behalf of the country office and thus to ensure that procurement operations and activities are carried out in a smooth manner.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

    •  Advises the head of the WHO country office for informed decision-making on procurement transactions;
    •  Coordinates the preparation and submission of procurement plans by the various organizational groups of the budget center;
    •  Prepares and monitors the implementation of the procurement plan ensuring that objectives and priorities are met and on track;
    •  Evaluates requests from technical units and partners and advises on compliance with the Organization’s rules and regulations;
    •  Administers procurement resources and ensures the consistent and efficient use of standard procurement procedures;
    •  Maintains the database of pre-qualified and evaluated suppliers;
    •  Maintains and monitors the overall activities of procurement, logistics and contracting services for the office by using the Oracle system in gsm oracle and other purchasing tools, including business intelligence (BI), and providing reports, data and statistics;
    •  Provides advice to unit/program managers and managers and staff on procurement, logistics and contractual services;
    •  Ensures the smooth running of purchasing operations, including the ordering and delivery of goods and services;
  •  Maintains regular contact with the Contracting and Procurement Unit (SPC) of the Regional Office and follows up on decisions taken by the Contract Review Board (CRC);
  •  Tracks the shipment of ordered items with shipping companies and liaises with local authorities for tax exemption and timely customs clearance of goods;
  •  Provides the secretariat of the local procurement committee;
  •  Analyzes and/or evaluates supplier performance with other designated personnel; and
  •  Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential

A first-level university degree in business administration, public administration, management or a related field.

Desirable

A postgraduate degree in business administration, public administration, management or a related field

Experience

Essential

At least one (1) year of experience, some of which in an international context, in the field of procurement and logistics services for a program. Experience in the use of corporate resource planning systems or similar software packages.

The WHO Country Office in Sierra Leone supports the strengthening of the national health information system to improve the availability, quality and use of health data and information as a basis for better results and accountability, for the policy development and decision making at different levels.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The purpose of this position is to support the work of WHO on strengthening the country’s national health information system and on monitoring and evaluation. Contribute to strengthening the capacity of the Representation office and technical programs in the area of ​​data management and alignment between health security actors and strengthening transparency between partners.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

With excellent skills in health and data management and in collaboration with other departments of the WHO Country Office, the WHO Regional Office for Africa, the Ministry of Health and Collaborating Partners, technical support for the generation, collection and analysis and synthesis, and communication decision making, specific tasks include the provision of technical assistance for:

    •  Development or update of legislation and policy framework for health information system
    •  Align health information system investments through a comprehensive and harmonized strategic plan and M&E case, and integrate into national health sector strategies

3.) MCH Officer

 

Contribute to the reduction of mortality and morbidity of maternal and newborns, children and for the promotion of adolescent’s health and development by strengthening the national capacity in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of interventions to improve the health status, building effective partnerships with health development partners for an integrated approach to Primary Health Care.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The position is to provide technical support at the national level, the incumbent will manage reproductive, maternal, newborn child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) activities which include prevention and management of violence against women; provide technical guidance to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and partners on the managerial, organizational and operational aspects of RMNCAH, the improvements in the integrated (RMNCAH) interventions, ensuring the alignment with the Global strategy for women’s, children’s and adolescents’ health 2016–2030 and the WHO recommended standards throughout the full cycle of the incident, with special focus on affected and vulnerable population.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

    •  Review and analyze national maternal and newborn health policies, strategies, plans and guidelines, programmes and related legislation
    •  Coordinate maternal and newborn health care activities
    •  Advise the national maternal and newborn health task force in the development of strategies for maternal and newborn health including Family planning.
    •  Provide technical assistance in the development of operation plans and tools for MNH and facilitate the dissemination of maternal and newborn health including family planning strategies, plans and relevant tools.
    •  Provide technical assistance for the implementation of maternal and newborn health including family planning interventions
    •  Establish and coordinate effective partnership with key stakeholders and donor agencies involved in maternal and newborn health including family planning
    •  Promote and implement operations research for maternal and newborn health including family planning
    •  Participate in monitoring and evaluation of maternal and newborn health including family planning programmer
  •  Perform any other duties as required for the success of the programme.

International Non-governmental organization, Action Against Hunger has been working to fight undernutrition and support communities affected by crisis across the globe for almost 40 years and across nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as Mental Health, Psychosocial Support and Protection (MHPSS-P) Officer, to ensure the implementation and follow-up of the Mental Health, Psychosocial Support and Protection (MHPSS-P) activities.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Implementation of MHPSS and Protection activities and Child care practices:

  • Provide technical support and follow-up on child care practices at the baby friendly space
  • Organize regular meetings with health facility staff
  • Set up regular follow-up meeting with the mental health nurse
  • Link with community mobilizers and supervisors when follow-up is needed
  • Organize regular meetings with MSGs on MHPSSP activities and care practices
  • Organize MHPSS and Protection events
  • Organize and conduct community engagement sessions with mothers support groups (MSGs), community health workers (CHWs), and community stakeholders on MHPSSP activities

Support in providing trainings and supervision on child care practices and psychosocial support and protection

  • Support organization and provision of training to key actors (health care workers, mother leaders, community health workers, etc) on MHPSS, protection and child care practices
  • Provide support on identifying beneficiaries in need ofof specialized services and refer the cases
  • Support healthcare workers through mentoring and coaching for caregivers and children to carry out activities like playing sessions, group discussions, bathing and massage, stress management, and psychomotor stimulation

Support health workers in conducting community engagement meetings 

  • Support line ministries staff to carry out joint-supervisions at the hospital and health facilities on MHPSS, Protection and child care practices
  • Conduct mentoring and coaching of healthcare workers in the health facilities
  • Assist line ministries staff in carrying out joint supportive supervision and identifying gaps in the quality of the treatment and regular mentorship

Support key stakeholders to strengthen the referral pathway for survivors or people at risk of protection concerns

  • Establish referral pathway between community, health facilities, the IPF in Mattru hospital and other specialized services
  • Support Community Health Workers, health facility staff and Mothers Support Groups in identifying protection cases in the communities to be referred
  • Support the ministry of Social Welfare in creating a mapping database for other actors providing protection services, including health, psychosocial support and legal services

Establish baby friendly corner at the in-patient facilities and provide child and maternal health care practices and psychosocial support

  • Assist the healthcare workers in providing health education for the caregivers on optimal care practices including importance of exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding and care of the infants and hygiene using counselling cards
  • Evaluate need of psycho-stimulation material together with the health facility team
  • Conduct massage session for children with malnutrition
  • Assist the healthcare workers in providing psycho-stimulation through play sessions, baby bathing, and massage to improve caregiver/mother and child interaction to prevent developmental delays
  • Provide psychosocial support when needed to Severe Acute Malnourished children caregivers at the In-Patient Facility

Perform data, monitoring, analysis and evaluation.

Title of position: Antimicrobial Stewardship Focal Point (Level 9)

Status of position: Regular

Location: MSF Hangha Hospital, Kenema




Main Purpose

The main purpose of the position is to implement, coordinate and manage the antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) program in the project in order to improve patient safety and quality of care optimizing the use of antibiotics and reducing the antimicrobial resistance.

 

Context Specific Responsibilities

  • Promote and sustain an effective AMS action plan and design strategies and interventions together with the AMS committee.
  • Establish and participate in a multidisciplinary AMS committee (that meets regularly with a TOR) in order to make recommendations and give systematic guidance.
  • Work with Health Promotion to provide education to patients and their caretakers about the use of antibiotic and increase awareness on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
  • Monitor, collect and analyze antimicrobial consumption data in collaboration with pharmacists.
  • Conduct regular audits relevant to stewardship priorities, including audits on quality of antibiotic prescription, and provide feedbacks to the project and the mission.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Activity Managers, the L&D department and the Academy to ensure education, bedside coaching and capacity building to other medical, nursing and pharmacy staff around stewardship and use of antibiotics.
  • Provide mentorship on the management of main infectious diseases, on the use of empirical and targeted antibiotic treatment, on basic principles of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of antimicrobials and their common side effects.
  • Ensure the implementation of the medical staff’s skills on the use and interpretation of microbiological diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborate with microbiologist to collect and disseminate data on antimicrobial resistance in the hospital and to support clinical staff on the choice of best antibiotic treatment. Liaise with the Micro Lab around timely communication of results (where relevant).
  • In collaboration with the IPC team, ensure and implement the standard precautions and transmission-based precautions in all departments of the facility.
  • Participate in the designing the strategy of the hospital to ensure correct recommendations are given regarding antibiotic use and choice.

 

 

Requirements

Education: Essential to have a medical degree or equivalent from an agreed university/college or equivalent.

Desirable to have completed an online training in Antimicrobial stewardship (e.g. BSAC and/or WHO)

Experience: Essential to have at least 3 years’ experience in working as a medical doctor or equivalent in inpatient settings

Desirable to have conducted at least one relevant quality improvement activity

Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as Food Security and Livelihoods Head of Department (FSL HoD), to guarantee the quality, relevance and scaling of FSL strategy and interventions at the mission, in conformity with Action Against Hunger and international standards, and national policies.

 

 

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Contribute to defining the country strategy as well as the sector strategy and positioning of the FSL technical department  in the country context. Specifically provide technical guidance to the country team on the ACF FSL positioning, sector development and alignment with national priorities. 
  • You will be responsible to ensure the understanding by the field teams of the humanitarian situation regarding FSL and of the context of intervention, and its continuous, systematic and thorough monitoring
  • You will also be in charge of the analysis of the FSL humanitarian situation
  • You are expected to champion the dissemination of information gathered and analyzed both internally and externally, including headquarters
  • Oversight of the production and the quality of the mission sectoral strategy document in line with ACF international and national frameworks is also your responsibility
  • You are expected to give contribution to the mission strategy and the ACFIN sectoral strategy
  • You will be taking account of DRM in FSL strategy and projects, including participation in drafting the plan to prepare for and respond to emergencies
  • Integrating the FSL sector with the other technical sectors (FSL, MHCP, NUT) is your duty as well
  • You are also expected to monitor the implementation of the FSL mission strategy, its revision and its cost effectiveness
  • You will be contributing to the technical and operational advocacy strategies of the mission, the region and headquarters (in line with the advocacy objectives defined in the ACF reference documentation)
  • You will be also identifying the subjects for sectoral advocacy specific to the mission, in collaboration with the Country Director
  • Coordinate the identification of needs and the formulation of project proposals, by working with the program teams, partners, authorities and communities.  You will be responsible for project design (FSL component), in coordination with other sectors and departments, and sector development. 
  • It’s your duty to coordinate the identification of FSL humanitarian needs
  • You’re expected to formulate, finance and implement the feasibility study of FSL projects (public health, technical, socio-economic, cultural and environmental aspects)
  • You will be involving the logistic and Finance departments in the definition/validation of FSL projects
  • You will also be contributing to the search for funding bodies for his/her sector and ensuring that there is an exchange of technical information with the funding bodies identified
  • You are expected to participate in visits by funding agencies whenever requested by the Country Director or the Field Coordinator
  • You are also responsible for producing the FSL sections of project proposals in accordance with the formats and deadlines of funding bodies
  • Oversee the implementation of programs/projects and ensure that quality reports are submitted timely. Specifically develop the technical capacity of the program team, provide technical oversight and monitorthe quality of implementation of the interventions.
  • You will be validating the key stages and the methodologies of the projects being undertaken (timetable, CAP survey (baseline/final) systematics, technical studies, call for tender, specifications, community approach, external evaluations…)
  • You will provide technical support (direct and at a distance) to the PM, whilst alerting or sharing information with the Field Coordinator
  • You will also be ensuring that systems of monitoring and evaluation are in place and that their results are integrated to guarantee the improvement of the projects
  • You are expected to do timely validation of the FSL parts of internal reports and reports to funding agencies, as well as amendments to projects, with contributions by the teams
  • Guarantee the quality and cost-effectiveness of projects, work closely with the project managers, field coordinators, MEAL and support departments in overseeing quality delivery, project budgets reviews and adjustment to meet the desired outcomes. 
  • You will ensure technical conformity of programs with international rules, orientations and technical standards, and the ACF framework documents and technical works
  • You will boost the overall standard of implementation of projects in order to maximize their impact (cf CAD criteria of OECD)
  • You will also ensuring, by use of ACF specific monitoring (project  quality, field visits, external audit…), that norms (SPHERE and OMS), and national and international standards of technical quality are respected
  • You are expected to issue and follow up technical recommendations
  • You will be alerting the Country Director and the Technical Advisor at Headquarters to all major difficulties encountered in applying necessary recommendations and/or adaptations
  • You will also be alerting the Country Director and asking that precautionary measures be taken in the case of major risks to public health
  • You will be responsible for the promotion of external and internal evaluations of projects, in line with ACF evaluation policy
  • Promotion of transparency and ethical standards in the projects by highlighting complaints/grievance procedures, particularly in respect of the beneficiary population
  • Ensure the active participation of ACF in national sectoral coordination and technical forums and develop sectoral partnerships, by participating the different in country forums –Food security technical working group, INGOs sector coordination. 
  • You will be representing ACF in sectoral coordination at national and sub-national levels (sectoral and/or cluster) and with the technical authorities
  • You will be in interaction with regional sectoral coordination
  • You will be in charge of the ACF contribution to the various action plans in the FSL sector (Consolidated Appeal Process, Flash Appeal, Inter-Agency Contingency Plan, HFA, national sectoral strategy  etc)
  • You are expected to provide technical communications concerning the FSL projects in liaison with the Country Director/Field Coordinator)
  • You will be in charge to promote of sectoral partnerships (civil society, NGOs, authorities, private sector.. .) and the enhancement of their capacities

  • You are the functional and/or hierarchical management of FSL personnel
  • You will be responsible for the evaluation of the technical performance of all FSL teams (PM, Deputy Head of Department, Specialists)

  • Promote capitalization, technical development and research within the FSL Department, to ensure there is evidence generation and  lessons learnt dissemination. Ensure the research works meets the ACF standards. 
  • You will be in charge of the capitalization within the FSL sector at the level of the mission, consolidation and transmission to headquarters (technical developments, pilot projects, innovative or little documented approaches, operational approaches which may serve as a reference for the ACF network, successes and failures, contextual analyses etc)

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Contribute to the development of the country and sector strategies

  • As key senior member  you will be required to contribute to the country  strategy development and the related implementation
  • You will be required to develop the sector strategy- for health and nutrition and ensure its full implementation

Position Overview

The State Enrolled Community Health Nurse (SECHN) is a critical member of the clinical staff at PIH. At Primary Health Care, the SECHN is expected to be versatile and be ready to take on responsibilities in various departments, and also work collaboratively alongside different members of the health care team.  The SECHN will provide high quality nursing care to patients and support to their families and other caregivers.  He/She will respond in a timely manner to patients who urgently need treatment as well as provide health education to patients and caregivers. The SECHN will also ensure accurate and proper documentation of all patient care activities, participate in Quality Improvement projects and be involved in clinical education sessions for professional development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: General Nursing:

  • Triage patients presenting to the clinic based on their level of acuity;
  • Ensures that patients presenting to the clinic are managed appropriately including identifying those who need transfer to a higher level of care.
  • Obtain and document patients’ vital signs, recognizing and responding to abnormal vital signs appropriately.
  • Maintain proper patient records through effective documentation.
  • Provide health education to the patients and their care-givers.
  • Deliver high standards of care in collaboration with the rest of the clinical team.
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly reports to be submitted to the appropriate departments for further analysis. Display high level of commitment by being adaptable and being able to function in a busy work environment, including rotating to other units at the clinic as required
  • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality and involve families in the plan of care.
  • Promote patient/family-centered care to ensure that their needs are met.
  • Engage and participate in clinical education or in-service training as determined by the Clinical Lead of the facility, Nurse Educator or the Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and other related studies that could improve on the delivery of care to patients.
  • Perform other duties related to the role, as may be required by the Clinical Lead or Director of Nursing.

Nutrition and Feeding: 

  • Ensure that all patients are receiving the right diet according to age and diagnosis.
  • Encourage lactating mothers to practice exclusive breastfeeding.
  • Ensure that Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) patients are receiving their supplies according to the protocol.
  • Ensure that motherless infants are receiving their supplies according to the protocol.
  • Ensure that Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) patients and care-givers are educated on the preparation of local diet.

HIV/TB Clinic:

  • Promote continuous medical education among other clinical staff.
  • Conduct pre- and post- diagnosis counseling for patients, as well as education on adherence to treatment.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the department lead or Clinical Lead of the facility.
  • Ensures that all emergency cases are prioritized and seen appropriately regardless of the time of the day.
  • Be willing to work or rotate to other department as determined by your supervisor or Clinical Lead.

NCD Clinic:

  • Provide NCD care in the NCD clinic (Diabetic Management, Management of High Blood Pressure, Management of Hepatitis B);
  • Ensure proper follow-up care for patients scheduled to return to the clinic.
  • Organization of the NCD clinic to ensure that it operates efficiently.
  • Rotate to other departments as the need arises.

Education and Work Experience Requirements: 

  • Current and valid clinical license, (SECHN Certificate and License).
  • Clinical experience in Maternal and Child Health, HIV/TB, NCD and General Nursing preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, must be able to take initiative and problem-solve, and must be flexible.
  • Ability to work well with a team, be dependable, and hard-working.
  • Ability to be adaptable and function well in a busy work environment, including rotating to other units as required.

The primary responsibility of Medical Officer for Internal Medicine and Emergency care is to carryout successful medical services in our Koidu Government Hospital (KGH), perform daily operations and provide supports, and as well receives directions from the Internal Medicine consultant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) Internal Medicine Medical Officer within the Internal Medicine and Emergency department and under the supervision and mentorship of the PIH Internal Medicine consultant
  • Daily rounds on the Medical wards, Emergency department and NCD clinic at KGH. This position will be supported by more senior PIH Internal Medicine consultant to develop expertise and knowledge in Internal Medicine, Critical care and Infectious diseases.
  • Supervision of the CHOs in the medical ward, Emergency department and NCD clinic including provision of clinical mentorship and continuous training in collaboration with the PIH Internal Medicine consultant.
  • Management of medical cases per national and international clinical guidelines.
  • Work with the PIH HIV/TB Clinical Officer to provide supportive supervision to MOHS health workers for HIV/TB services at KGH (including case detection, counseling and testing, HIV case management, diagnosis and management of Opportunistic infections according to national guidelines).
  • Participation in district hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community health clinics case reviews, and other activities that may increase the knowledge and expertise in Clinical Medicine with special interest in Internal Medicine, Critical care, Infectious diseases and NCDs, as required.
  • The Medical Officer is also expected to actively participate in and support, PIH program systems, such as the MEQ data collection systems and feedback loops, the KPI presentations and discussions besides other general systems that will help support the General clinical outcomes and the Internal Medicine Clinical Outcomes in particular.
  • The Medical Officer at the Internal Medicine Department, in collaboration with the PIH senior consultant and the PIH Clinical Educator is also expected to actively make inputs to the clinical trainings curriculum for other cadres of clinical staff at KGH, WBA and other CHCs that PIH may be supporting.
  • Interest in Clinical and Academic personal development. The candidate will be supported to join the National Post graduate training program for Internal Medicine at MoHS after this posting.
  • Be willing to work in any other department as needed but within your capability, and required by the PIH Clinical leadership.
  • Clinical work:
    • Daily rounds at the Medical wards (Male, female), Infectious diseases Unit, Emergency department, NCD clinic at KGH.
    • Work with the clinical staff of WBA and any CHC that PIH is supporting for referrals, specialized medical advice and training/mentorship.
    • Collaboration with CHO rounds
    • Provide support to nurses and social workers, in conjunction with nursing department.
  • As the KGH Internal Medicine Medical Officer, serve as the point of contact for the following:
  • Support of the National programs for malaria, TB, HIV, NCDs, Hepatitis B, Emergency and critical care and Infectious diseases (COVID 19, Ebola, Lassa Fever, etc). under the supervision of the PIH Internal Medicine consultant
  • Referral team – collaborate with the  Nursing & Social Work Program Manager as needed for patients requiring referral for diagnostic or specialty services
  • Administration
    • Work closely with the PIH Internal Medicine consultant, Chief Medical Officer, clinical team and Kono Leadership team on strategic planning and budgeting for our Medical programs.
    • Attend daily morning briefing/meeting at KGH as required

 

In addition, specific interest in continuing the collaboration with MoHS and the Post Graduate training program in the country will be highly valued.

Position Overview
A Community Health Clinical Officer generally applies his/her medical knowledge and skills to the diagnosis, prevention and management of patients that flows into any of PIH supported facilities and any of the Wellbody Alliance/Partners in Health affiliated health facility.

 

He/she does this thoroughly following the principles of inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation where ever applicable to find out the actual cause of disease, and also utilizing the appropriate laboratory work. He/she should consult the medical officers for discussion on patient’s care plans in some critical cases, respecting patient’s privacy and confidentiality as much as possible.

  • Responding to medical/health problems presented by patients including proper history taking, investigations, diagnosis, treatment and referral as appropriate.

Position Overview
 

PIH-Sierra Leone has a strong track record of service delivery in Sierra Leone’s Kono district, where we have seen drastic improvements in health outcome, including in maternal/child health, HIV/TB care, and in overall quality of care and service utilization. PIH-Sierra Leone works in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), and in the coming years will be supporting District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) in multiple districts in Sierra Leone as part of the implementation of a large donor-funded program to catalyze health service delivery and improve health outcomes in these districts and replicate the Kono model.

 

Strong all-rounders that are diplomatic and technically skilled, District Advisors will act as partners to DHMTs in the day-to-day implementation of district-level health policy and health service delivery, working closely with DHMT staff and other district level advisors focused on M&E and clinical operations. In this role, they will apply the nuts and bolts of project management and public health to help DHMTs get things done and scale up successful models of health services. Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor, District Advisors will spent 75% of their time in their home districts, and approximately 25% of their time travelling to Freetown or Kono district.

 

The District Advisor helps to facilitate all DHMT-level project activities, including trainings for DHMT counterparts, developing project plans, and establishing or reinforcing DHMT workflows centered on clinical care, quality improvement, facility management, supply chain, and other domains as needed. S/he will regularly convene PIH district staff and Ministry of Health and Sanitation counterparts regularly to review human resource needs, facility and quality improvement updates, and overall project plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities

 

Government accompaniment

  • Support major project components undertaken by DHMT counterparts, including the hiring of key clinical and operational staff
  • Along with the Senior Technical Advisor, facilitate management and quality improvement trainings for key DHMT counterparts
  • Work closely with DHMT counterparts and the Senior Technical Advisor to prepare for district level in-charges meeting
  • Pragmatically support government counterparts by identifying and resolving obstacles to program success, and paving the way for significant health projects and health improvements in the district
  • Visiting district-level facilities to support the implementation of trainings and improvements to selected facilities based on PIH health system strengthening models

Position Overview
The Environmental Health Worker is a key member of the Operations department in ensuring that our janitorial services are regularly maintained, especially at the welbodi or KGH health facilities. The Environmental Health Worker will work closely under the supervision of the Environmental Health Team Supervisor to help provide janitorial support to our facilities, thereby creating a conducive and healthy environment for all. The Environmental Health Worker will be required to perform regular and daily deep cleaning activities both internally and externally at the Welbodi or KGH health facilities, check on cleaning supplies and replenish stock; wipe down furniture’s using different cleaning products; and strictly follow all IPC protocols. Under general direction of the Environmental Health Team Supervisor, cleans all areas of the hospital by performing routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and corridors. Demonstrate ability to utilize the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • General cleaning of the building and keeping it maintained and in good condition.
  • Using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, environmental health staff is responsible to wipe equipment, clean furniture, floors, windows, ceiling and the outside facilities environment

Main Purpose 

The Family Support Officer will be responsible for supporting children with cancer and their  families at Sierra Leone’s first paediatric oncology unit at Ola During Children’s Hospital. In  collaboration with health care professionals he/she will be in charge of ensuring that children  and young people with cancer and their families receive the emotional, social, and practical  support they need. Services will include a psychosocial needs assessment of the patient and  their family’s situation, provision of emotional support, information on financial support and  financial guidance for families, practical support and making referrals for other services  where appropriate. The role will also involve working with the wider oncology team in a  collaborative way, so as to meet the holistic needs of patients and their families.




He/She will

assess and review needs at diagnosis and at key points during the cancer journey, working  in collaboration with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)/ Oncology Medical Team at the  Hospital. This role is expected to identify and contribute to best practice, promote the  psychosocial needs of patient and their families, aid the development of services and  provide advocacy for patients and their families.

Needs assessments and support plans  

⮚ To ensure the provision of high-quality assessment and care support planning in  partnership with families.

⮚ To individually assess families’ needs at diagnosis, developing support plans for the  patient and families that are considered to be at high risk of abandonment in  collaboration with the medical staff.
