About the role

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW The Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) site aims to determine and track the causes of under-five mortality and stillbirths through epidemiologic surveillance, including reporting within 24 hours, clinical sampling, and use of advanced laboratory testing and diagnostics across a network of international sites. The area selected for CHAMPS in Sierra Leone is Bombali Sebora chiefdom in Bombali district. In the last one-year CHAMPS has been collaborating with COMSA in Bo district to collect mortality data on Under-five deaths. The Minimal Invasive Tissue Sampling (MITS) procedure used by CHAMPS was developed to reduce the uncertainty regarding causes of death. The data collected from the CHAMPS Sierra Leone site will be added to that collected from other sites and will help reduce child deaths in LMICs by providing detailed evidence on the cause of death to influence policy of funders and stakeholders.




Crown Agents is playing the role of a Fiscal and Procurement Agent and provides management and technical oversight to the Implementing Partners (IPs) for the CHAMPS Site in Sierra Leone. We are seeking a data management Specialist, who will join the data management & information technology team to support the management of data generated by the project as well as provide technical support regarding overall data management & analysys activities and processes. More information about the project can be found at https://champshealth.org/ This position will be based in Makeni with occasional travel to Freetown and Bo. MAIN JOB PURPOSE • In this role, the incumbent will support the overall data management activities relating to implementation, management and oversight for the CHAMPS program. • Provide data management support to research studies including data analysis, designing of study instruments, setting up of databases, data entry, data cleaning and editing, and backing up and archiving of data. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB • Support CHAMPS data management activities, including but not limited to, supporting developing and maintaining data management tools, data collection, data cleaning, developing and supporting any non-standard CHAMPS data management processes, storage and sharing of data and other monitoring and evaluation activities. • Define and document best practices and strategies regarding AWS applications deployment and infrastructure maintenance. •Use statistical tools to assess data quality, perform data analysis to identify, analyse, and interpret trends in the data sets; support manuscripts development and publications. • Improve overall data quality standards by developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work sheets, and work flows in collaboration with Team Leads and Implementing partners. Contribute to the review and development of research protocols, statistical analysis plans (SAPs), Data Management Plans (DMPs), Data Validation Plans (DVPs) and any other associated study document as required • Designe, finalize, deploy & technical maintenance of data management systems including REDCap & SurveyCTO data management systems. • Generate study database design specifications including CRF/eCRF design, edit checks, system notifications, query logic & user role setup. • Set up & manage systems for tracking the progress of data capture to ensure timeliness and accuracy. • Extract data from REDCap & SurveyCTO systems & transform the data into prescribed data formats. • Develop & implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of data collected. • Develop data management plans that address areas such as data coding, reporting, or transfer, database locks, & work flow processes. • Regularly execute STATA do-files to generate data quality issues, share & follow up these issues raised to resolution.




About you

Qualifications • Holder of BSc/BA, preferably MSc. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Biostatistics or related discipline with extensive practical experience. • At least 5 years of data management in medical research Abilities • Fluent in written and spoken English • Proficiency in statistical software used for data analysis, such as STATA, SAS, and R • Experience in use of EDC Systems including REDCap, SurveyCTO or OpenClinica including designing and developing data collection tools using these systems • Experience with cloud computing patforms desirable • Experience with programming and coding software such as C++, Java, VBA, VB.Net • Proven experience and knowledge of database systems/software MySQL, Ms. Access.
