Summary:
The work schedule for this position is:

    • Full Time 40 per week

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (5 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties
Operates the boat and trailer to transport Embassy staff and equipment along the Atlantic coast or around local rivers. Assists the Boat Captain in preventive and safety maintenance of the Embassy boat. Completes trip tickets and maintenance records for the boat. Assists the Motor Pool Clerk in FMIS data management. Assists the Boat Captain to safely operate the boat and trailer in coastal and riverine environments. Ensures the boat is fully operational with functional safety equipment (e.g. life jackets and fire extinguisher), navigational devices, communication equipment, anchor with rope, and appropriate amounts of fuel and fluids.

 

Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:  Two years boat pilot/navigation experience. Experience should include navigation in Freetown, its Peninsular and Countryside areas.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Must have good working knowledge of all local reefs, shipwrecks, and other hazards, which pose a threat to safe navigation of boats. Ability to take equipment readings with various meters, hand tools, power tools, and specialty tools to determine appropriate repairs.

Education Requirements:
Completion of High School education.
Evaluations:
Post may choose to add the phrase “This may be tested” after a language, skill, and/or ability.  Review the VA template for specific information.

LANGUAGE:  Level 3 English ability (good working knowledge) of written and spoken English required. Level III Kiro (good working knowledge of Kiro language). This may be tested

SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to diagnose and repair faults of a boat. Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner; work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, heights, and temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments; communicate orally and in writing with co-workers to obtain pertinent information. Ability to maintain a boat pilot's license is required. Must be able to use handheld radio and be able to communicate to passengers and supervisors. Must be able to use computer systems.

    1. Housing/Rent Allowance 25% (Annual Basic salary) paid yearly.
    1. Transportation Allowance 30% (annual Basic Salary) paid Bi-Weekly.
