About the role Â
The Finance and Administration Manager is an exciting and influential role that sits at the heart of our country office operations. It is a senior management position that combines overall financial management with day-to-day administration of the country office. The role will oversee a team of finance and admin staff and will ensure strict compliance with BBC Media Action and donor policies, effective financial management and accounting. It also involves effective leadership of administrative and operational processes that support smooth delivery of multiple projects and activities. As a member of the senior management team, the role will support the Country Director and contribute to the high-level decision-making, business development and other tasks that support the delivery of our organisational strategy and priorities. Â
Duties and Responsibilities Â
1.1. 1. Financial Management and AnalysisÂ
1.2. 2. Financial Control, Compliance and Risk ManagementÂ
- Maintain the financial integrity of BBC Media Action Sierra Leoneâs operations through strong internal controls.Â
- Ensure compliance with BBC policies, donor requirements and local laws, including tax and statutory filings.Â
- Safeguard organizational assets through proper record-keeping, fixed asset management and insurance arrangements.Â
- Oversee management of bank and cash accounts, reconciliations, and financial documentation. â˘Â Maintain up-to-date procurement and finance manuals in line with global standards. â˘Â Ensure statutory and donor audits are conducted on time and recommendations implemented. â˘Â Maintain and update financial risk assessments, ensuring mitigation measures are in place.Â

1.4. 4. Health, Safety and SecurityÂ
- Act as a focal point for office health, safety and security matters, liaising with BBC Safety, Security & Resilience (SSR) and external networks as appropriate.Â
- Organise fire drills, first aid training, and health and safety inductions for staff. â˘Â Ensure compliance with BBC and local security procedures, including during strikes, protests or other disruptions.Â

1.5. 5. Line Management, Capacity Building and TrainingÂ
1.6. 6. SafeguardingÂ
- Understand and comply with BBC Media Actionâs Safeguarding policy and Code of Conduct. â˘Â Support safeguarding training for staff and freelancers and maintaining up-to-date records. â˘Â Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Country Director or through the Whistleblowing Policy.Â
1.7. Essential Skills and ExperienceÂ
- Qualified accountant and/or relevant postgraduate degree (e.g. MBA, MA in Finance/Administration).Â
- At least 5 yearsâ senior management experience in financial and administrative management, ideally in an international NGO or development organisation.Â
- Strong knowledge of donor compliance and financial reporting requirements for FCDO and EC. â˘Â Extensive experience of overseeing budgets for a complex project particularly with co-financing arrangement.Â
- Proven track record in budgeting, financial planning, and analysis, with advanced Excel and experience of financial systems.Â
- Demonstrated experience in managing sub-grants.Â
- Demonstrated ability to manage procurement, logistics, assets and office administration. â˘Â Experience leading and coaching diverse teams.Â
- Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.Â
- Fluency in written and spoken English.Â
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience Â
- Experience of providing training to non-finance colleagues and support in supporting partner organizations on financial management. Â
- Experience of systems like Access Dimensions, SAP, Oracle, SUN etc. will be an advantage. Competencies Â
