International Non-governmental organization, Action Against Hunger has been working to fight undernutrition and support communities affected by crisis across the globe for almost 40 years and across nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger established its presence in both Liberia and Sierra Leone in 1991 during the Civil War and since then has been operational in the two countries by implementing various humanitarian and development programs related to health, nutrition, food security/livelihoods and advocacy geared towards the reduction of the prevalence rates of under-nutrition in both countries. Since January 2018, the two countries have been clustered and now operating under a single management structure. The coordination office is based in Freetown, Sierra Leone overseeing the operations in Bonthe and Moyamba.
Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as Mechanic Driver to be responsible for carrying out regular routine maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles, generators and motorbikes; control the quality and guarantee of spare parts, provide technical support in the procurement and stock management of spare parts, raise procurement line for spare parts; drive a vehicle to transport people and goods
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Carry out and follow up routine maintenance and minor repair works on vehicles, generators and motorbikes for the coordination office
Responsibilities:
- Regularly carry out periodic maintenance A, B and or C on vehicles, prepare stickers, administer job-cards in vehicle folders in Freetown, complete maintenance follow-up file and request spare parts from stock
- Carry out or supervise regular maintenance on generators at the coordination office.
- Carry out or supervise regular maintenance on motorbikes at the coordination office
- Liaise with maintenance external suppliers, workshops and control the quality of their work when they repair vehicles, motorbikes, generators for external maintenance
- Under the supervision of the Senior Logistics Officer, prepare a work plan every month
- Ensure Quality control of spare parts
Responsibilities:
- Visit suppliers when necessary to control quality of spare part supply
- Check all spare part deliveries and sign on supplier delivery notes (vehicle, motorbike, generator)
- Support the efficient implementation of spare part procurement and spare part stock management
Responsibilities:
– Raise Procurement Lines for the procurement of spare parts
– Support the SLO in optimizing the spare part stock
– Submit timely spare part requests by completing the Stock Release Order
– Support the SLO in preparing dispatches to the field (delivery notes) and in checking the stock
- Whenever required, take up driver duties and transport people and equipment under good security conditions:
Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely transportation (pick-up and drop-off) to and from requested destination of employees.
- When transporting employees, respect the country’s circulation rules and follow the logistician’s planning and instructions;
- In case of an accident, immediately get in touch with the closest police station and duly inform the logistics department;
- Follow the instructions of the manufacturer and the Action Against Hunger rules when using the vehicle;
- Keep all personal documents as well as those of the vehicle with you and check that they are valid.
- Reporting and Administration
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and File maintenance job-cards in Freetown in equipment folders
- Complete the maintenance and repair follow up file, spare part request on a monthly basis
- Participate in the drivers’ meeting and give feedback on maintenance and repairs done on the vehicles
- Teamwork:
As part of the Coordination Logistics team, the Mechanic Driver may be required upon workload and request from his direct manager to support his colleagues on temporary activities.
- Gender Action
Activities:
- Works with field teams to ensure access and participation of women, men, girls and boys at risk to Action Against Hunger’s response, recovery and rehabilitation work.
- Supports local stakeholders in organizing and carrying out advocacy and campaign for greater gender equality and equity in social protection programmes.
- Engages with State and local Women’s rights organizations and mobilize collective voice around gender discrimination in the post conflict setting.
- Proactively represent Action Against Hunger and participate in Gender and protection working
Others
- Adherence to the Action Against Hunger Code of Conduct
- Carry out job related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or School Leaving Certificate or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s Licence – A MUST
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Technical and Mechanical skills: Ability to carry out periodic maintenance and repairs on vehicles. Ability to supervise fleet and carry out periodic maintenance of vehicles, generator and motorbikes.
- Should have basic computer skills (Excel and Word)

WORK CONDITIONS
STARTING DATE: June 2023
MONTHLY BASIC SALARY: 3,227.26 to 3,485.44 based on profile
HOUSING AND TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE: 15% of basic salary each
DURATION OF CONTRACT: Initial Six (6) Months, with possible extension
LOCATION: Freetown – with travels to Moyamba, Bonthe, and other field areas
