Key Purpose

Responsible to ensure quality control and supervision of the construction works and must thoroughly understand the contract, the relevant drawings, specifications, special provisions, and the work schedule, as this enables him/her to inspect and judge the quality and thoroughness of the contractor’s work, in comparison to the contract. The clerk of works should be vigilant in their inspections of a broad range of technical aspects of the work.

Duties
Provide adequate supervision to all site activities and ensure they meet the building codes and all safety compliance requirements; and
Report the progress of the work and contractor performance to the Project Engineer through a project diary.





Deliverables
The Clerk of Works will solely be responsible for the project site they are assigned to, and the scope of work will include:
Observe the quality and progress of the construction to determine in general that it is proceeding in accordance with the Contract Documents and notify the Contractor and Architect/ Engineer and Contractor when work performed fails to fulfil contract requirements.
Inspect all work and ensure compliance in accordance with quality assurance and quality control plans/procedures as required by design details and specifications.
Communicate to the contractor all problems in a timely manner.
Document all matters related to the execution of the contract and the progress of the work in the project diary.
Inspect setting out works to ensure that setting out is in accordance with working drawings.
Ensure that contractors adhere to the plans and specifications and function as the authorized engineer’s representative on site.
Measure works executed to facilitate monthly/regular evaluation for interim payments.





Attend site, pre- and post- contract meetings and other such meetings required by the Architect/Project Engineer.
When applicable, assist the Architect/Engineer in final inspection of the work. Assist in reviewing the documentation.
Prepare, coordinate, and facilitate site visits for all internal and external stakeholders.
Identify and communicate all discrepancies, problems or issues and report same to the Architect/Project Engineer.
Ability to work independently.
Be conversant/ proficient with the use tablets/ electronic devices in recording and communicating work activities.

Reporting (Essential Functions)
Maintain daily log of activities and resources including daily weather condition.
Document all construction activities with photos and where applicable, videos, with detailed documentation of problems or issues.
Perform other duties as determined by the Architect/Project Engineer.
Education and Experience
A Bachelors/Higher National Diploma (HND) in Civil Engineering and registered with the relevant local professional body.





Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience on similar construction works and a thorough understanding and experience with industry best practices, modern building construction technology and contractual arrangements.
Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel).
Must be able to drive a motorcycle and have a driver’s license (Note: This requirement is subject to site allocation).
Demonstrate proficiency in reading and understanding commercial construction plans and specifications.
Qualities and Skills
Strong understanding and expression of written and verbal English.
Have a wide understanding of the building industry, including knowledge of materials, methods, and legal requirements.





Be technically competent.
Have sound knowledge of Site Management Principles and Practices.
Be physically fit.
Be able to plan, organize and coordinate the work of others.
Be attentive to detail when checking work and materials.
Be honest and vigilant to make sure that the work and materials meet the required standard.
Have good judgement (because you have to decide when to insist on corrections).
Be capable of safely riding a motor bike on rural roads.

Note:
The employment is short – term and for an initial duration of average 6 months’ subject to location. There will be no Leave break taken during the employment. Public Holidays will be observed.
