Job Description
Trócaire, the overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland, is looking for a highly motivated professional to work together with our partners to bring about positive and lasting changes around women’s empowerment issues in Sierra Leone.
Location of position: Freetown, Sierra Leone
Contract duration: Fixed contract for 1 year with a possibility of renewal
Scope of the role: Trócaire Sierra Leone seeks to recruit a Programme Officer – Gender Based Violence based in Freetown with frequent travel to other districts. The Programme Officer will lead on the delivery of women and girls’ protection programming in Trócaire’s Strategic Plan, with an emphasis on prevention strategies, survivor centred quality response services, particularly medial, psychosocial support and access to justice, develop and sharing research on good practice, facilitating communities of practice and advocacy work in this sector.
The role will have responsibility for managing a portfolio of partnership with civil society organisations, providing technical assistance to ensure high quality programming, including training on GBV programme standards. The role will also sup-port the development of well-designed proposals for submission to institutional donors.
∙ Third level qualification in; Social Science, Development, Psychology, Medicine or a related area. ∙ Minimum five years of working in GBV prevention and response, social behaviour change approaches, and gender programming in Sierra Leone or abroad.
∙ Experience of working in a partnership arrangement with civil society organisations and with the use of participatory approaches to development.
∙ Experience in advocacy on GBV, particularly leading and convening NGO/Women’s movement
∙ Experience in working on integrated programming related to women’s economic, social and political empowerment and protection
∙ Experience in developing and delivering training on GBV topics
∙ Experience in monitoring and evaluating GBV programmes, particularly gender sensitive data
∙ Spoken fluency and written proficiency in English.
