Job Title: Psychosocial Counselor
Duty Station: Freetown
Contract length: one year
Reporting to: Protection Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Counselor is to provide mental health counseling for survivors of Gender Based Violence and Human Trafficking. They will do this with a kind, compassionate, supportive and professional approach, not offering advice, but rather supporting people through the healing process. The Counselor will be willing to work in a fast-paced environment, often based at a shelter-setting, but with periodic travel to the provinces. They will offer training for people in communities and make referrals to appropriate support services if they identify anyone facing abuse. They will offer supportive counseling (one on one and in groups) to survivors identified, and keep clear case notes on their therapeutic interventions and survivor’s progress. They will also represent World Hope at coordination meetings, at the national and local level. They will refer cases to law enforcement as needed, and follow-up cases to the judicial level.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing therapeutic services, and referrals, to survivors of abuse.
- Occasional travel, in rural areas of Sierra Leone will be a requirement of the job. - Liaising closely with the international Anti-Trafficking and GBV team of World Hope International
RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS
1. Education
Degree or certificate in Counselling, Social Work, Gender or associated field, or relevant work experience
2. Job related experience and knowledge
Experience working with a protection agency is a plus.
Knowledge of protection issues is required.
Must have a willingness to closely follow and help to train on Child Protection Policy. Working knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook is a plus.
3. Time required in job to reach effective performance
