Capitol Foods (Capitol) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accountant to perform and coordinate accounting duties within our organization.

As the accountant you will be a key player in supporting the Chief Accountant with providing financial information such as cost expenditures related to the manufacturing processes and producing detailed reports and analyses. You will also assist in enforcing internal controls and ensure timely preparations of financial statements and reports.

You will be responsible for a wide variety of finance-related tasks with functional responsibility for general accounting, accounts receivable and payable and payroll. These tasks often include managing invoices, receiving and handling payments, weekly cash forecasting, various reconciliations, payroll administration, completing general bookkeeping duties, computing taxes and tax returns, organising and maintaining financial records and ensuring statements are accurate. The information will support the business with weekly financial flashes, monthly results, quarterly forecasts and annual budgets.

To be successful as the accountant at Capitol, you should have a solid working knowledge of IFRS and strong financial recording, analysis and reporting skills. Your position collaborates with and supports the operations, sales/marketing and finance teams with insightful analyses and suggestions for improvements.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Main responsibilities and duties. The role will encompass but not limited to following activities:

  • Support the Chief Accountant with the daily operations of the accounting department by maintaining a system of accounts and keeping books and records on all transactions and assets.
  • Utilise spreadsheets and database tools to assist in financial record keeping.
  • Assist and maintain control of the following areas: general ledger, accounts payable,
  • expense reports, billing, and payroll.
  • Various reconciliation (stock, banks, creditors, debtors) and ensure balancing of
  • general ledger accounts.
  • Support management of cash/bank operations including petty cash.
  • Receive all delivery orders from the sales department, process invoices and billing
  • statements.
  • Create new accounts for newly accredited clients and contact debtors as necessary to
  • ensure accurate and on-time payments.
  • Track creditors and payments and ensure accuracy of paid accounts.
  • Responsible for end of period closing entries and adjustments.
  • Manage the asset register and depreciation of assets.
  • Stock control including management of critical stock.
  • Act as the finance lead for physical inventory and monthly cycle counts; arrange and
  • lead monthly stock taking program in the warehouses and organise surprise cycle
  • counting.
  • Collaboratively develop improved reports with the inventory control manager; with
  • regular update of inventory transactions as relates to the general ledger and assure
  • timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Management of procurement including raw material accounts.
  • Collecting and analysing data about the company’s operational costs including all
  • cost expenditures related to the manufacturing processes in the factories.
  • Cost accounting tasks including cost of manufactured goods.
  • Assist with payroll administration and verify invoices and expense statement of
  • employees.
  • Assist with financial analysis, accurate monthly financial and management reports,
  • including profit and loss accounts, balance sheet, budget and variance, projections
  • and forecast, and cash flow.
  • Assist with and act as the primary point-of-contact for auditor requests and support
  • external audit and tax preparation functions.
  • Review financial data and prepare monthly and annual reports.
  • Work closely with the Chief Accountant to develop and document business processes
  • and accounting policies; to maintain and strengthen internal controls; in addition, work with other departments to develop positions on best practices throughout the organisation.
  • Ensure that the business meets all statutory & compliance obligations including statutory accounting and tax issues. For example, filing of the tax returns (GST or any other tax) of the company within deadlines.
  • Maintain and build good relationships external parties such as banks, tax and revenue authorities, customs office, customers and suppliers.
  • Provide training and orientation to new members of the accounts team. Motivate team members to achieve goals and targets and strive for continuous self- improvement.

EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS

  1. Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting/ finance as a minimum, Certified Public Accountant
  • (CPA) credentials is desirable.
  • At least three years of accounting experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably
  • an FMCG company.
  • Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles and best practices.
  • Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget
  • development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll,
  • and accounting for investments.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws.
  • Demonstrated ERP system experience is essential, experience with Tally is especially
  • desirable but will accept excellent working knowledge with other integrated
  • accounting package.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Power point, Outlook)
  • especially spreadsheets, with the ability to manipulate large amounts of data.
