FSL ltd. is looking for a talented candidate for the position of a Social Education Worker in Freetown, Sierra Leone

 

Brief Description:

The west African Republic of Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world. The consequences of the 11-year civil war (1991-2002) and the Ebola epidemic (2014-2016) continue to have a negative impact on the economic situation in the country and on the living conditions of the people in Sierra Leone.

The association Für Sierra Leone e.V. was founded in 2013 by committed citizens from Bavaria, Germany and Sierra Leone who are interested in Africa. The association particularly supports programs in the areas of school and vocational training, water/hygiene, and young entrepreneurship.

 

The FSL Girls Empowerment Scholarship Program (FSLGEP) aims to support socially disadvantaged, talented, and particularly committed girls (14 years and older) from Sierra Leone. Through various program activities such as workshops, excursions or computer courses, the girls' talents, interests, and self-efficacy are strengthened. In addition, the association finances school uniforms, food, transport costs, books, and basic medical care, among other things. Since 2021, the association has been awarding university scholarships to successful graduates of the FSLGEP.




Area of activity:

Your main focus will be the support of the FSLGEP in Freetown, Sierra Leone. You will work with a local social worker and support the local organization in developing, planning, and implementing as well as monitoring and evaluating activities within the program. In doing so, you will consider the goals and strategy of the program in close consultation with the local Managing Director as well as the board of the FSL association in Germany.

Another focus is to support the Girls Empowerment Social Worker in assisting the scholarship holders and their families in everyday areas of their lives.

 

Your tasks:

  • Program supervision of the FSLGEP with the local social worker, in planning, preparation, and implementation of program activities, e.g., workshops, outings, field trips
  • Supporting the development and implementation of project activities in line with the program's objectives and strategy as well as with the Managing Director, (Remote Coordinator) and FSL staff/board in Germany
  • Creative planning and implementation of educational projects with the scholarship holders, e.g., in the fields of environment, tutoring, career and life planning, sexuality, etc.
  • Ensuring the program quality and project assessment through regular monitoring and evaluation, submission of regular project reports
  • Supporting financial program monitoring by preparing program budgets, budget planning and reconciliation as well as controlling the use of funds
  • Cooperation with local NGOs, schools, universities, ministries, etc.
  • Publicizing the scholarship program in Sierra Leone

 

Your profile:

  • A BA or MA degree in social sciences, social work, management in non-profit organizations, political sciences, international relations, or any other comparable studies
  • First practical experience in the management of social projects or projects in international development cooperation
  • Experience in working with girls, young women, and families from underprivileged backgrounds
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and implementing group activities
  • First practical experience in a country of the global south
  • High level of intercultural competence and willingness to adapt to the conditions of the host country
  • A high degree of commitment, a flexible working style the ability to work under pressure
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • An independent, structured, and reflective way of working
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • The ability to interact with a variety of people, from beneficiaries and their families to government officials, etc.
  • Positive, patient, recognizing needs and developing creative solutions
