Functional Title: Driver (1) on full time position

Job Purpose: To safely drive the Country Representative and other staff/volunteers of German Doctors e.V.

Reporting: The Driver will report to the Finance and Admin Coordinator

Duty Station: Bo with regular trips to other operational districts

About German Doctors e.V: German Doctors e.V. is a non-governmental organisation working in 7 countries across the world. We believe in the right of every human being to have access to medical care no matter their origin. Our volunteer doctors offer medical treatments to the poorest of the poor in developing countries. We advocate for a life in dignity and provide healthcare services and training for disadvantaged people in our operational areas. We also strive to improve the health of our patients over the long run through prevention programs, accompanying nutrition programs and training in water and hygiene.

Our doctors perform missions for 6 weeks either during their annual holidays or after retirement on a voluntary basis. Over 7700 missions with more than 3,500 doctors have been performed since 1983. We have been offering our patients continuous help for 40 years.

Since 2011, German Doctors is operating in the medical sector in Sierra Leone. We are currently implementing a Pediatric training program in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the School of Clinical Sciences Makeni. We are also working on health prevention programs through Sierra Leonean non-governmental organizations in Bo, Pujehun, Bombali, Tonkolili and Kailahun districts.

Specific Responsibilities/Duties:

»      Drive the staff and volunteers of German Doctors e.V.

»    Responsible for the routine check of the assigned vehicle – check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres etc. on a daily basis

»    Log all trips in the logbook provided daily; i.e. mileage, gas, oil changes, etc. and ensure the logbook is available, whenever required

»    Ensure proper maintenance of the assigned vehicle and perform minor repairs, where applicable

»    Inform the Finance and Admin Coordinator of any major repairs required

»    Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean at all times

»      Report all accidents and comply with rules relating to accidents

»    Adhere to all the driving rule and road signs as mandated by government of Sierra Leone

»    Ensure all accessories including toolbox, first aid kits, umbrellas, etc. are available in the vehicle assigned at all times and promptly report misplacement or depletion to supervisor for necessary action

»    Willingness to work on weekends and public holidays, whenever required

»      Perform other job-related duties as required

Required Skills and Experience:

»      Carry a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

»    At least 3 years experience as a professional driver

»      Ability to fill in the logbook in English

»    Ability to communicate with doctors in English

»      Reliability and punctuality

»      Skills in minor vehicle repair are desirable
