Our Work In Sierra Leone:

Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.

Position Overview
The Acute Needs Program Distributor is responsible for the distribution of ANP committee approved acute needs support to clients. This is a community-based position. He /She works closely with CHWs, field supervisors, social workers, Facility based officers and the finance team to ensure patients gets their support. The person in this position should be someone who is a good communicator and an advocate with Acute Needs Program staff, PIH colleagues, and most importantly clients. This person must be very well organized, motivated, reliable, and passionate about patient care. Field based work is limited within PIH supported facilities and communities served by CHWs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure that approved support is distributed following the ANP Committee decision.
  • Deliver services agreed upon by the ANP committee to beneficiaries; receive clients’ consent and signature when support is distributed
  • Maintain client confidentiality and be empathetic towards patients and families.
  • Collect and maintain all necessary receipts; provide all receipts to the ANP Program officer and finance team
  • Follow-up of services that are ongoing, such as a new roof or housing
  • Treat all clients with respect, dignity and kindness
  • Adhere to PIH policy and do not accept gifts or payments from clients in the community
  • Works closely with the finance team to ensure clients receive their support
  • Counsel clients to ensure support is use for the intended purpose
  • Attend all meetings and trainings organized the Community Based Program
  • Support the nutritionist to procure local items for the preparation of MAM benni mix
  • Work closely with CHWs , field supervisors and Facility based officers for the distribution of community support ( Cash & non-cash items ) to clients
  • Coordinate bi-weekly MAM transport reimbursement to mothers /caregivers with support from the finance team

Education and Work Experience Requirements
  • Preferably must have completed WASSCE or high school certificate.
  • Commitment to social justice and human right.
  • Should be an exemplary, honest, trustworthy, and respectful.
  • Must be able to read and write in English as well as add and subtract using basic maths.
  • Should be willing, able, and motivated to serve his/her community and dedicated to caring and supporting vulnerable patients, family members and the community at large.
  • Must be a permanent resident of the community and willing to work in it.
  • Should be able to perform specified task as outlined in the scope of work
  • Should be interested in community health and development
  • Should be a good mobilizer, Counselor and communicator
  • Should be involved in community projects in the past
  • Must be at least 18 years’ old
