Who we’re looking for  

We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced project manager to lead a new media for-youth project. This ideal candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills and a  track record of project set-up and delivery, including budgeting and expenditure  management; partner and grants management, production oversight, youth programme  delivery and research and learning. The role will involve working closely with other BBC  Media Action teams, as well as young people. Therefore, creative thinking, problem  solving, analytical skills, and good communication skills are essential.  

Specific job requirements and competencies  

The ideal candidate for this role will have: 

  • Experience managing a multi-disciplinary team to deliver development projects,  including project design, developing workplans, deploying resources and adhering to  log-frame commitments;  
  • Strong skills in managing budgets and good knowledge of budget and project  management tools and software; 
  • Experience writing activity and project reports, and the strong written communication  skills to do so effectively; 
  • Ability to build strong working relations quickly and gain the trust of local partners  and counterparts;  
  • Strong analytical skills, good judgement and decision-making abilities, as well as  innovative project delivery and problem-solving skills

Scope of work  

The Project Manager will lead day-to-day implementation of the Dis Na Wi Voice project,  ensuring timely delivery of activities, coordination with FSTP recipients, oversight of  youth-focused media and digital components, and compliance with EU requirements. The  role ensures supporting various teams to deliver activities on time and according to  budget. It will also involve providing leadership and support to the training and production  team to deliver capacity building for young people and partners and strengthening  linkages between all components of the project.  

Responsibilities  

Project management and delivery: take overall responsibility for day-to-day coordination  of all project strands, ensuring that activities align with timelines in the action plan and  meet milestones. This will involve working with management to set up the project, finalise  work plans and tools, as well as recruitment of project staff.  

Partner management: To serve as the primary liaison with the three university radio  stations and national media partners receiving grants on this project. Will be responsible  for initiating grant agreements, work plans and reporting requirements. Partner  management also means supporting partners to solve problems and deliver impactful  activities.  

Oversee selection, training and mentoring activities: The project manager will provide  oversight of all training and mentoring activities, supporting the training and production  manager, as well as partners to select hub participants, facilitators and digital stewards,  among others, ensuring safe, inclusive and gender-sensitive participation of young people  in all activities.  

Content and production oversight: Will take overall responsibility for coherent  implementation of the project brand and content ecosystem across radio, digital and  mainstream outlets. The project manager will support the Training and Production  Manager and Digital Producer to maintain editorial quality and alignment with project  objectives.  

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: To work closely with the Research and Learning Team  to monitor activities, including quarterly progress reviews and partner reporting. The  project manager will support baseline and endline research, digital analytics tracking, and  content review assessments. 

Reporting and Compliance: Will be responsible for preparing reports in line with EU  requirements. This includes ensuring compliance with EU rules on visibility, grant  management, procurement, and safeguarding. 

Safeguarding: Uphold and promote strict adherence to BBC Media Action’s safeguarding,  respect-at-work and health and safety policies across all production and training activities.  This includes ensuring a safe, respectful, inclusive, and non-exploitative environment for all  youth participants and a responsibility for reporting safeguarding concerns promptly, following  BBC Media Action protocols. Safeguarding considerations must also be integrated into  training, content production, and outreach activities.

We’re looking for a highly creative person who combines strong production and editorial skills with training and mentoring experience. This is a key role in a new media-for-youth project.  Therefore, the ideal candidate must demonstrate strong creative ability with a proven record  of designing and delivering exciting and engaging multimedia content for young people. They  must have experience of leading a team and working with young people; ability to exercise  strong editorial judgement while remaining excitingly creative; manage budgets and talents;  and be interested in the development of others. We rely on our partnerships to deliver our  work. This makes it important for the successful person to have experience in managing  partnerships, especially with local media, government institutions, and other partnerships. It is  also important that they demonstrate that they are good team player. We are looking for  competencies in editorial judgement, creative leadership, managing relationships, planning  and organising and developing others.

Scope of work 

The Production and Training Manager role sits at the heart of our new media-for-youth project,  funded by the European Union. The successful person will lead the development,  coordination, and delivery of all production, training, and mentoring activities across the three  youth-led media hubs based at university radio stations. The role ensures high-quality content  creation, supports youth capacity building, and strengthens linkages between university hubs,  community youth, and mainstream media partners. It will also involve working with young  people to establish and maintain a vibrant youth-led digital community that enables young  people to express themselves and engage meaningfully on various issues affecting them.

Responsibilities 

Training and Capacity-strengthening: work with the team to design and deliver structured  training, mentoring programmes for youth content creators across multiple platforms; train  participants in journalism basics, content planning, storytelling, audio/video production,  editing, and social media strategy; coordinate visiting trainers, mentors, and subject-matter  experts; provide ongoing coaching and skills assessments to ensure steady capacity growth;  Production Management: To oversee all youth-led content production (radio shows, social  content, community stories, mini-documentaries); ensure each hub maintains consistent  production schedules and meets high technical and editorial quality standards; support youth

teams with script development, field recording, editing, and final packaging of content; work  with university radio stations and guide outreach-based content development in surrounding  communities;

Hub Coordination and Technical Oversight: Work with the project team and station managers  at FBC, Central University, and Njala to manage access, equipment use, and operational  needs; ensure production equipment is functional, well-maintained, and safely stored;

Digital Community Support: Work with the digital team to create content and adapt hub content  for the youth-led digital community on social media; support youth in generating user-driven  content and moderating discussions in the digital community; encourage community  participation and ensure content reflects diverse youth perspectives.
