Doctors with Africa CUAMM operates in Sierra Leone since 2012, its mission is to enhance access to quality primary and secondary health care with a specific attention to maternal and child health care by using the network of CHWs as well, nutrition, communicable and non-communicable diseases’ prevention, diagnostic and treatment services.

Doctors with Africa CUAMM works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy.

Duty Station: Pujehun. This job may include some trips outside the duty station.

JOB SUMMARY:

Overall Objective: Collaborate with the HMT to strengthen the capacity of the PEN-Plus Clinic, conduct Diagnosis, management and follow-up of  patients with Non Communicable Diseases visiting Pujehun Hospital PEN-Plus Clinic.Means: 

General means: Specific stationary/ data tools & specific protocols.

  • Objective 1: To endure that all patients with NCDs visiting the PEN-Plus clinic are well managed by providing quality Diagnosis, Treatment and follow up.
    • Ensure that patients visiting Pujehun Government Hospital Medical Wards are well managed by providing quality diagnosis, treatment and follow up.
    • Responding to health problems presented by patients, including proper history taking, investigations, diagnosis, treatment(including hospital admission and treatment of inpatients) and referral as appropriate.
    • Maintaining confidentiality and impartiality.
    • Carrying out specific procedures as lumbar puncture, paracentesis, thoracentesis, etc when necessary, under the supervision of the Internal Medicine Physician
    • Providing service at the NCDs clinic and other departments, according to the duty roster.
    • Ensure proper data collection of patients demographical and clinical data at each consultation (for patients with NCDs) .
    • Liaising with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment is given to the patients.
    • Ensures that all emergency cases are prioritized and seen appropriately regardless of the time of the day.
    • Be willing to work long and unpredictable hours (including nights and weekends) as dictated by the needs of the patients and by the duty roster
    • Actively participate in clinical education sessions about specific topics related to NCDs and other medical conditions.
    • Learn specific protocols and procedures regarding advanced care for NCDs, such as cardiac US and others.
    • Provide on-the-job mentorship to junior clinical staff.
    • Provide mentorship and supportive supervision to PHUs staff
    • Deliver trainings on NCDs conditions to other professionals, with the supervision of the Internal Medicine Consultant
    • Conduct sensitization activities on NCDs for the general population (such as and not limited to radio discussions, school talks, market talks)
    • Perform other duties related to the role, NCD clinic or project as may be required by the Internal Medicine Physician or Project Manager.

– Objective 2: Support Coordination and Collaboration

In collaboration with the hospital management team (HMT):

  • Organise and/or participate in monthly planning, catch up and review meetings with CUAMM, HMT and other health partners in the district and beyond.
  • Identify challenges that will affect the activities in the PEN-Plus clinic and bring it to the attention of the Internal Medicine Physician & Project manager for appropriate action.

– Objective 3: Monitoring, Evaluation, and other tasks

  • Contribute to monthly & quarterly Activity Progress Reports (narrative and quantitative)
  • Participate with M&E team in conducting project assessments and studies as required.
  • Conduct other activities as requested by the Technical assistant or Project manager.
Activities should be based on the standard treatment protocols. 

The goal of the program is to strengthen the capacity of the PEN-PLus clinic so as to effectively manage patients with NCDS.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Higher Diploma in community Health clinical Sciences with 2-3 years’ work experience in a Clinical setting.
  • Experience working in a PEN-Plus Clinic for at least 6 months will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical practices and ethics in line with the Medical and Dental Council of Sierra Leone
  • Proven ability to exercise good judgement, demonstrate political astuteness, and tact.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external visitors.
  • This is a location based recruitment, no accommodation or relocation allowance is available for this assignment.
  • Must not hold a PIN code or receive salary from consolidated funds.
  • Ability to live full-time in Pujehun required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, partner agencies, key contacts in the government, and CSO.
  •  Knowledge of computer use is an added advantage.
