Job Description
Position: SBU Head – Steel
Location: Sierra Leone, West Africa
Experience: 15–20+ years in Steel or Heavy Manufacturing
Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, or Industrial Engineering (MBA preferred)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to head our Steel Strategic Business Unit (SBU) in Sierra Leone. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of managing large-scale steel or heavy manufacturing operations with full P&L ownership. This is a critical leadership role focused on operational excellence, strategic growth, profitability, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the steel business unit as an independent profit center
- Oversee the entire manufacturing value chain including rolling, cutting, and finishing processes
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and Six Sigma methodologies across operations
- Develop and implement long-term business strategies and market expansion plans
- Ensure compliance with international quality standards including ISO and HSE protocols
- Build, lead, and mentor cross-functional teams across operations, engineering, sales, and support
- Monitor and optimize procurement, vendor performance, and supply chain efficiency
- Collaborate with senior leadership on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
- Ensure the achievement of business objectives related to productivity, cost, quality, and delivery
Requirements
- Minimum 15–20 years of experience in steel manufacturing or heavy industry
- Proven track record of managing P&L for a large industrial unit
- Strong technical knowledge of steel production processes and equipment
- Hands-on experience in driving continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and strategic thinking skills
- Ability to operate effectively in cross-cultural and dynamic business environments
