BACKGROUND
Welbodi Partnership (WP) is a UK-registered charity organisation working to reduce maternal and child mortality and morbidity in Sierra Leone. Since 2008, Welbodi Partnership has worked in partnership with hospital management, health facility staff, and the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to improve maternal and child health outcomes in the Western Area of Sierra Leone.
We do this through a range of bold innovative partnerships models across health system strengthening activities, staff training, hospital improvement projects, and community engagement.

CONTEXT
Welbodi Partnership has over the last 15 years maintained consistent technical, operational, strategic, funding, logistical and cross-learning relationship with Ola During Children Hospital (ODCH) and Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) the lead National referral hospitals in Sierra Leone for Paediatric and Maternal care respectively.
There is a growing need to continue to build on this supporting relationship in a bid to continue delivering on the ODCH strategic plan, build further on Nurse training and capacity, improve quality of paediatric care in key areas especially in delivery and care for paediatric oncology patients and other subspecialty areas.
In the next phase of this support to hospital operations, focus will be on securing established gains and learnings whilst looking to building network of strong facilities and affiliates with health care
systems across the country with an aim to further reduce neonatal, infant and child morbidity and mortality in Sierra Leone and especially reduce preventable long-term suffering and/or death from childhood cancers.
Main purpose of the role
The Hospital Projects coordinator (HPC) role is a co-funded cross cutting role responsible for overseeing and leading Welbodi Partnership’s health and research work in PCMH, ODCH, PCE hospitals, and affiliates.
The incumbent will report to the Programs Manager (with dotted line to Country Director) and will be the go-to-person for all hospital care improvement- across the country, identifying and leveraging on partnerships to drive improved hospital functionality; liaise with hospital leadership directly on operationalising current ODCH strategic plan, building donor trust in quality of hospital operations, nurture Welbodi relationships with co-implementing partners supporting hospitals, and the delivery of quality submissions to interested parties. In addition, the HPC will continue to support the delivery of research implementation projects in PCMH/ODCH/PCE held by Welbodi.
Hospitals Projects Coordinator with support from the Programs Manager will identify, review and lead on technical needs for nurses (and potentially other health cadre) training including orientations, onboarding, competencies assessment and other deliverables.
The Hospitals Projects coordinator (HPC) will develop key technical outputs required for improving quality of healthcare for childhood cancer patients in ODCH and its affiliates.
In support to the Programs Manager, the HPC will liaise with key partners like KCL, USL, PCMH, ODCH, World Child Cancer, Asuka Consulting, JICA, Global links, RCPCH, Cardiff and Vale, UBS etc to foster cross-partner collaboration with hospital management.
Specific responsibilities are listed below but will also include other duties necessary for the success of individual projects and of Welbodi Partnership.

Technical Leadership and Quality Assurance (Role encompasses both

∙ Oversee the development, maintenance, and updating of nurses training databases.
∙ Oversee the development of mentorship and preceptor-ship frameworks for nurses and ancillary health workers training and embedding the same into context. Oversee the quality of training and conduct regular reviews of the training curriculum.
∙ Collaborate with senior clinical staff to develop, maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the hospitals in general, as well as specific wards/units/clinics.
∙ Function as the logistics liaison for the childhood cancer units in both hospitals.

Staff Management ∙ With oversight from Grants Lead, provide effective oversight of 5 direct reports active in delivering hospital projects for Welbodi Partnership. ∙ Supports international and local recruitment for Welbodi Partnership hospital projects. ∙ Responsible for ensuring that all hospital projects’ staff have appropriate objectives and appraisals (using OGSMs and/or OKRs), receive support and training, and manage grievances and disciplinary issues when necessary. ∙ With supervision from Grants Lead collaboration with WP’s HR/Admin, is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all hospital projects’ staff and assets. | ∙ Completion of periodic Objectives, Goals, Strategies, Measures (OGSMs)/ Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). ∙ # of staff webinars, training and CPD seminars facilitated/initiated.

Hospital Strategy, Projects’ Delivery And Partnerships
∙ Support the ODCH, PCE and PCMH hospitals with the development and updating of hospital strategic plans, as well as tracking progress versus actuals as per the plans.
∙ Conduct periodic reviews of hospital strategic plans and projects’ performance.
∙ Ensure hospital projects are delivered on a high standard and in line with the organization’s values.
∙ Oversee all Welbodi research and hospital projects, ensuring deliverables are met in line with donor partner expectations. ∙ Facilitate Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment, Learning, and
Research (MEALR) activities with the Welbodi Partnership MEALR unit manager to collect, analyze, and utilize facility-based data to evaluate and improve clinical projects and health outcomes.

CRITERIA FOR CONSIDERATION
Qualifications
- Bachelors and/or master’s qualification/degree(s) in Nursing, community/public health, medicine or related fields, business administration/project management, hospital management, biomedical sciences and other relevant disciplines.
- Additional post-graduate certifications in business administration / project management are an added advantage. (and/or background of relevant pedigree in fast-paced performance driven social enterprise organization’s is also equivalent).
Experience
- Previous and/or ongoing experience overseeing hospitals/clinics projects.
- Experience in research and research management
- Familiarity with the Sierra Leone development and/or humanitarian context
- At least four years’ training experience
- A proven Nurse educator and clinical childhood oncology care practitioner.
- Management- level experience to include performance tracking, OGSMs and/or OKRs in projects and personnel oversight.
- Previous experience working with partners like KCL, World Child Cancer, Addax & Oryx, JICA, Asuka, Cardiff and Vale, GOAC, LAD etc is an added advantage.
- Experience in qualitative donor report writing with a proven ability to secure donor funding. • Experience in the charity sector and/or in impoverished, post-conflict, or other challenging environments.
