DESCRIPTION 

Medicos del Mundo (Doctors of the World – Spain) has been working in Sierra Leone since  2002, implementing projects focused on strengthening community and health systems to  improve Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) and to  reduce Gender Based Violence. Our main partners include the Ministry of Health and  Sanitation, the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs. Currently, our projects are  implemented in Koinadugu and Falaba Districts.

JOB SUMMARY 

Under the guidance and supervision of the Country Coordinator/Logistician, the Driver  provides reliable and safe driving services to MDM Office In Freetown and ensuring highest  standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol  and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact  and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

LOCATION: 

The successful candidate will be based in Freetown with trips to Koinadugu District for  activities.

FUNCTIONS 

➢ As employee of MDM, you are responsible for the driving and maintenance  of the MDM vehicles.

➢ Driving MDM cars respecting traffic and MDM rules.

➢ While on duty, the driver is responsible of the appropriate use of the vehicles  as well as all the equipment, objects and other things contained in it. ➢ Maintain a working collaboration with the team: expatriate and local  personnel.

➢ As employee of MDM shall behave in a polite manner at all times while at  work and respect MDM staff regulations.

➢ To maintain proper functioning of the vehicles. To check the following items: • Level of engine oil

• Level of water in the cooling circuit
• Level of brake fluid in brake and clutch circuits
• Correct fastening of the battery
• Condition of the radiator
• Condition of the tires (pressure and quality)
• Traces of oil-leakage under the car

➢ To inform to the Logistician without delay of any missing or non-functioning  items.

➢ To drive safely and carefully, observing the speed limits and traffic rules.

➢ To fasten safely and clearly request passengers to do the same. It  is nor, however, the driver’s responsibility to insist on the  fastening of seatbelts.

➢ To secure and guard the vehicle and cargo while on duty.

➢ To keep the inside and outside of the vehicle clean.

➢ To notify the Logistician immediately regarding any damage to the vehicle.

➢ To notify the Logistician or Driver-logisticians at least one week in advance of  any repair

or regular maintenance required for the vehicle.

➢ To make the supervision for the repairs and maintenance of the cars.

➢ To update the logbook for the refueling and maintenance.

➢ To make sure that the fuel capacity is always enough for the scheduled  activities and make sure the tank is full each Friday night.

➢ Regular check the material on board (spare tires, jack, belts, ropes, first aid  kit…) and make sure that is working properly.

➢ Daily: check the warning lights, star the car and let the engine heat up during  5 to 10 minutes, make sure the temperature rises up.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Updated Driving license and the candidate must able to read and write.

DESIRABLE: 

Good knowledge in mechanics

EXPERIENCE: 

At least 2 years of working experience in similar positions.
