International Non-governmental organization, Action Against Hunger has been working to fight undernutrition and support communities affected by crisis across the globe for almost 40 years and across nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger established its presence in both Liberia and Sierra Leone in 1991 during the Civil War and since then has been operational in the two countries by implementing various humanitarian and development programs related to health, nutrition, food security/livelihoods and advocacy geared towards the reduction of the prevalence rates of under-nutrition in both countries. Since January 2018, the two countries have been clustered and now operating under a single management structure. The coordination office is based in Freetown, Sierra Leone overseeing the operations in Moyamba Field Office and Liberia Country Office.
Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as Agricultural Technician to assist the Program Manager in the implementation, monitoring and reporting of all project activities.





KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Implement and follow up on the project activities:
Activities:
Support the Program Manager (PM) with development of plans (i.e. activity plan and training plans, etc.) for implementation of project activities;
Train smallholder farmers and their organizations (FBOs and ABCs) on good agricultural practices (GAP) in groundnut production, groundnut crop management and postharvest handling practices, farming as a business, etc.
Facilitate the establishment of FBOs and ABCs collective plots and farmers’ individual plots
Train core actors (i.e. farmers, processors, traders, etc.) of the groundnut value chain on business management and food safety;
Distribute inputs to beneficiaries;
Monitor project activities and record data pertaining to distribution of inputs, equipment/supplies to, utilization and cultivation by smallholder farmers and their organizations (FBOs and ABCs), processors and manufacturers





Provide coaching and mentoring support to smallholder farmers and their organizations (FBOs and ABCs) on good governance, etc. on proper and accurate business records keeping;
Provide coaching and mentoring support to processors, traders, manufacturer, etc. on proper and accurate business records keeping;
Supervise and provide technical supports to smallholder farmers, farmers’ organizations on groundnut production, postharvest handling practices, and business transactions records keeping;
Supervise and provide technical supports to processors, traders, manufacturers, etc. on business management and business transactions records keeping;
Support FBOs and ABCs to determine and update regularly the target farmers and communities agricultural input needs for the activities;
Facilitate market linkage discussions between smallholder farmers, farmers’ organizations (FBOs and ABCs) and other actors (i.e. processors, traders, etc.);
Sensitize communities on hygiene and safety consumption of groundnut products;
Coach and monitor existing Village Saving and Loans Associations (VSLA);
Take note of any changes in the food security situation, socio-economic and agricultural conditions in the intervention area. Keep the PM informed of the activities, problems and successes;
Propose possible improvements;
Write field activity progress report as requested by the PM;
Assist in filing project documents according to Action Against Hunger standard format;
Participate in baseline and endline survey activities
Perform any other duty assigned by the PM;





Represent Action Against Hunger:
Activities:
Explain the project and its activities and objectives to the partners and the target population;
Act as a link between AAH and the beneficiaries at community/village level.

Gender Action
Activities:
Ensure the inclusion of youth and women in the project in all project implementation especially in AAH supported communities;
Include gender topics in the trainings to be provided for project beneficiaries (farmers, FBOs, ABCs, traders, processors, sellers, etc.), partners and other stakeholders;
Sensitize target farmers, the communities, partners, and other stakeholders on gender issues (i.e. gender equality, equity and poverty dimensions in their communities) and mainstreaming of gender into community development actions;
Support establishment of a platform- or community-based feedback system for clients to safely and confidentially voice concerns and provide input on gender issues. This can help the manager to provide accountability for acts of gender discrimination or mistreatment;
Support to develop gender-integrated annual work plans to include gender objectives, activities to achieve the objectives, and indicators to measure progress toward achieving the objectives for all staff;
Others:
Adherence to the Action Against Hunger Code of Conduct
Adhere to all COVID-19 precautionary measures
Carry out job related duties as assigned





QUALIFICATIONS
BSC/Diploma in Agriculture or related fields
professional experience in agriculture and related disciplines
REQUIRED SKILLS
Good organizational capacity
Strong knowledge and experience of agricultural techniques (e.g. groundnut cultivation, Good Agricultural Practices)
Community participation/empowerment approaches
Good knowledge of the local languages and culture (Moyamba District)
Capacity to communicate with people
Training skills
Good team spirit
Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
Ability to work independently, but also coordinate effectively as part of a team.
Ability to ride a motorbike with a valid driving licence
Previous employment in Action Against Hunger or similar INGO is advantageous





WORK CONDITIONS
STARTING DATE: February 2022
DURATION OF CONTRACT: Two(2) Months, Extendable for Eight (8) extra months depending on Donor Approval
LOCATION: Moyamba, with frequent travels to Freetown, and other field areas

REMUNERATION:
Monthly Basic Salary: SLL 2,907,450.00 to 2,667,000 based on profile
Monthly Transport Allowance: 15% of Monthly Basic Salary
Housing Allowance: 15% of Monthly Basic Salary
