Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals.

Position Overview

PIH-Sierra Leone is supporting the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in the implementation of the five-year World Bank funded QEHSSSP health systems strengthening project that will implement a comprehensive Hub-and-Spoke approach in 5 districts in Sierra Leone through focused investments in staff, stuff, space, systems and nutrition.

Through the project, Partners in Health, in the leadership of Ministry of Health and Sanitation, will be supporting 3 health facilities in the district ( Jojoima , Buedu and Bandajuma ) through comprehensive health systems strengthening approaches to develop these sites as sites for comprehensive Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child Adolescent Health and Nutrition services.

The positions will be based in one of the health facilities in Kailahun : Jojoima CHC, Buedu CHC or Yawei Bandajuma CHC.

The Facility Assistant is a critical member of the PIH Sierra Leone team and will work collaboratively with the clinical and support services staff to provide high-quality , comprehensive maternal and newborn health services at all PIH supported and affiliate d sites as required. Facility Assistant will work closely and under the su pervision of the Administrative Officer .

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Β Responsible for cleaning of Office Building, Quest House buildings, removing debris, and the entire compound clean and tidy.
  • Β Clean (Shampooing) of carpets, empties trash can/waste bin, and replace lining of trash cans in both offices and quest houses.
  • Β Ensure proper cleanliness of the areas around the office such as walkways and parking lots.
  • Β Clean, dust and mop office floors by using a variety of equipment and cleaning products.
  • Β Wipe down desks and chairs and make sure that all stubborn smears are removed using appropriate cleaning materials.
  • Β Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created . d6tU2kB B2Mjo4
  • Β Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  • Β Clean and service restrooms with mops and disinfectants.

Position Overview

Over the past 7 years, PIH has been working with the MOHS and District Health Management Team in Kono District, Sierra Leone, to implement comprehensive health systems strengthening in the district’s secondary hospital, multiple primary care sites as well as through a comprehensive community-based programs system.

The MCH Aid is a critical member of the PIH Sierra Leone team and will work collaboratively with the clinical and support services staff to provide high-quality, comprehensive maternal and newborn health services at all PIH supported and affiliated sites as required. The MCH Aid will work closely and under the supervision of the facility midwife.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Β Provide high quality antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to pregnant women, new mothers and their babies, including provision of the full package of antenatal care services as per the Sierra Leone national protocols and guidelines for emergency and obstetric and newborn care.
  • Β Triage and monitor the vital signs of patients when needed
  • Β Actively participate in the identification and management of antenatal complications requiring treatment, follow-up and clinical management.
  • Β Provide high quality and timely basic emergency care for obstetric complications during antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.
  • Β Administer vaccines and other medications under the supervision of the midwife
  • Β Assist high quality normal delivery care including ensuring proper monitoring of labor through the use of the partograph and other monitoring tools in use in the department.
  • Β Provide daily essential newborn care to all infants born. Identify, liaise with the clinical team and prepare for transfer sick babies to KGH/MCOE for further treatment as needed.

  • Β Prepare documentation and participate in MDSR monthly reviews, including presentations for the facilities and DHMT.

Position Overview

The Maternity Centre of Excellence Hospital in Koidu City, Sierra Leone, provides high-quality maternal and neonatal care to the community. This state-of-the-art facility is operated in partnership with Partners In Health (PIH) and the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Officer to join our Maternity team. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of reproductive patients, neonates and their families in Sierra Leone.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Β To work as part of the RMNH Team, providing high quality clinical maternal and neonatal care services to the local and regional population in conjunction with other health workers working cohesively within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Β Serve as Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) and the MCOE as a Medical Officer for PIH SL
  • Β Complete daily rounds on Maternity wards with OBGYN’s, SACHO, CHO and midwifery and nursing staff
  • Β Manage maternity cases according to national and international clinical guidelines
  • Β Provide general support and supervision throughout the hospital, and across sites, as needed
  • Β Direct supervision for CHOs, clinical officers working in maternity wards

Family Communication: Communicate effectively with families, providing them with updates on their infant's condition, explaining treatment options, and offering emotional support.

Education and Training: Participate in training programs for healthcare staff and provide guidance on maternal and newborn care best practices.

Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, treatment plans, and progress notes.
