SOS Children’s Villages was established in Sierra Leone in 1974. We work with government and partners in communities to help families care for their children or to provide an alternative family for children who have no one to care for them, or who have lost parental care or are exposed to risks of neglect, abandonment, abuse and exploitation. Located in Freetown, Bo and Makeni, SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone has a wide range of programmes, in which the love of a caregiver is essential, to ensure children grow in a loving home and become their strongest selves.

Programmes include Alternative Care settings, Interim Care Centres, Youth care programmes that support more than 530 children and young people leaving in villages and in communities. In addition to quality care, we advocate for children, young people and women’s right, protection, safeguarding and empowerment. SOS Children’s Villages also provide quality education to over 4,000 students through its Herman Gmeiner International Schools, Kindergartens and Technical Vocational/ Employability and Entrepreneurship Training Centre in support of care-exit strategies and reintegration processes. Other projects include the Youth Innovation challenge & Youth-Can! which support young entrepreneurs with their businesses and young people on their quest to employment. The emergency programmes aid vulnerable families cope with the impact of COVID-19 and the economic downturn to prevent family separation.

 

SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone is recruiting Children’s Village Manager to manage its programme interventions within the Freetown or Makeni Village locations in line with the organisation’s vision, mission, values, policies, strategies and available resources. The role will support programme development in alternative care service delivery using the Family-like Care setting in line with the brand and approved strategies, policies, guideline of the organisation and national legislation.

 

The CV Manager will be involved in the planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Children’s Village, Youth Care Programmes and Educational Programmes, which include the Kindergarten, Lower & Upper Basic School and High School.

 

He/she is also responsible to ensure there is ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the programmes and its efficiency according to the organisation’s policies and procedures.

 

Support the process of identifying local funding opportunities and applications for grants and other forms of local income (such as donations-in-kind and government subsidies).

 

S/he is to build and/or maintains effective relationship with local media and external bodies, so that child rights issues in general as well as the organisation’s mission and objectives can be promoted on a regular basis.

 

Provide the National Director and other senior staff with the required regular updates on programme activities and results.

 

Arranges, provides and coordinates the delivery of services to children and families in strong partnership with other services providers and in line with the family development plan.

 

Keeps regular contracts with child and family during the implementation of family development plan through phone calls, home visits and meeting in programme premises.

 

Advocates for the individual child and his/her family to have access to social entitlements or obtain needed services.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelor degree or Master in psychology, or sociology, and or pedagogy, and or project management, and or community development, or any other diploma deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in project / program management.
  • Have skills in human resources management and planning and monitoring and evaluation skills.
  • Have a great writing and reporting capacity and a mastery of the IT tool.
  • Highly developed communication with tact & diplomacy, interpersonal, networking, and negotiation skills.
  • Trustworthiness and confidentiality as well as modelling principled behaviour

SOS Children’s Villages in Sierra Leone is recruiting Maintenance Assistants to perform routine building and equipment maintenance duties, including painting, minor electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and ventilation systems maintenance within Freetown or Bo Village locations. Overseeing the work of contracted vendors as required.

 

She/he must maintain a comprehensive record of all major & minor maintenances & repairs carried out at any given time.

 

The Maintenance Assistant must keep a proper stock record of all tools and materials issued to him/her and use them efficiently.

 

Inspecting control panels and electrical wiring to detect any issues that require immediate attention.

 

Promptly responding to requests for emergency repairs and clean-ups.

 

Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs.

 

Ensuring that all maintenance equipment is in good working order.

 

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

 

  • BECE Certificate
  • 2+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems (including relevant equipment and tools) is a plus
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time; ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and lift or move heavy equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other manuals and documents
  • Ability to work in a team and follow instructions from supervisors
  • May be required to work outside of normal work hours
  • Must be an honest, hardworking, punctual & reliable person.
  • He must have knowledge on Child Protection and Child’s Right Issues

SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone is recruiting a Social Worker to supervise and monitor all welfare issues with our participants (Children and Youth) in the Village, to promote and strengthen good social relationship in the village. Reporting directly to the Children’s Village Manager, the Social Worker will work closely with the biological families of our participants (Children and Youth), SOS Mothers and communities, based on the professional social worker practice, ethics, vales to achieve the sustainable development of the families and integration in the community.

 

Under the leadership of the Children’s Village Manager, the social worker supports programme development in the field of Family Based Care in line with the “Vision, Mission, Values”, the brand and approved strategies, policies, guideline of the organisation and nation legislation.

 

He is also responsible to ensure the timely completion of the case management procedures at all stages based on the individual approach and on the active participation of children, parents/caregivers.

 

He is to conducts comprehensive assessment of children and families in strong cooperation with the multidisciplinary team using different resources and social work techniques/methods to identify family needs and strengths and define the required services.

 

Prepares transition plans, with the strong participation of the village team, caregivers, children and the multidisciplinary team.

 

Arranges, provides and coordinates the delivery of services to children and families in strong partnership with other services providers and in line with the family development plan.

 

Keeps regular contracts with child and family during the implementation of family development plan through phone calls, home visits and meeting in programme premises.

 

Advocates for the individual child and his/her family to have access to social entitlements or obtain needed services.

 

Contributes in community development undertaken by the Family Based Care Programme, i.e. organise/participate in awareness raising activities, community mobilisation events and capacity building of the community partners.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Minimum Diploma in Social Work, Development Studies, or related field.
  • 1-year professional experience in related filed.
  • Willingness to live and work in remote areas
  • Possession of valid motorbike driver license is an advantage
  • Experience in project cycle management
  • Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
