International Non-governmental organization, Action Against Hunger has been working to fight undernutrition and support communities affected by crisis across the globe for almost 40 years and across nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger established its presence in both Liberia and Sierra Leone in 1991 during the Civil War and since then has been operational in the two countries by implementing various humanitarian and development programs related to health, nutrition, food security/livelihoods and advocacy geared towards the reduction of the prevalence rates of under-nutrition in both countries. Since January 2018, the two countries have been clustered and now operating under a single management structure. The coordination office is based in Freetown, Sierra Leone overseeing the operations in Moyamba Field Office and Liberia Country Office.
Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as Agricultural Technician to support the Programme manager in the implementation of the project title: Boosting Agriculture and Food Security (BAFS) Project: Promotion of Agribusiness and Innovative Farming
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Implement and follow up on the Boosting Agriculture and Food Security (BAFS) Project:
Activities:
- Implement technical activities with target households and the community mainly the vegetables and pulses production and marketing, farmers’ organization and education at grass root level
- Supervise and train target farmers in crop management techniques focusing on vegetable production
- Monitor and support the farming practices of target beneficiaries
- Determine and update regularly the target communities agricultural input needs for the activities
- Record data pertaining to agricultural input distribution, utilization, cultivation, and harvest and monitoring reports of the beneficiaries
- Facilitate the establishment of vegetables/pulses production and marketing association or/and village saving and loan association in the project areas
- Take note of any changes in the food security situation, socio-economic and agricultural conditions in the intervention area.
Represent Action Against Hunger:
Activities:
- Explain the project’s activities and objectives to the partners and the target population
- Act as a link between the Organization and the beneficiaries at community/village level
Gender Action
Activities:
- Ensure the inclusion of boys, girls, women and men in all project implementation especially in AAH supported communities
- Include gender training in to all AAH community trainings for community support groups, PHU staff and partner staff
- Conduct training with health service providers to raise awareness of the gender equality, equity and poverty dimensions in their PHUs.
- Establish a platform- or community-based feedback system for clients to safely and confidentially voice concerns and provide input on gender issues. This can increase manager and provider accountability for acts of gender discrimination or mistreatment.
- Develop gender-integrated annual work plans to include the gender objectives, activities to achieve the objectives, and indicators to measure progress toward the achieving the objectives for all staff.
- To ensure that all data is sex and age disaggregated throughout the project cycle from assessment and implementation, to monitoring and evaluation.
- All beneficiary feedback and complaint mechanisms are gender and age sensitive.
- To ensure that different needs, capacities and vulnerabilities of women, men, girls and boys are understood and acted upon in all AAH supported communities.
- Demonstrate experience and/or personal commitment to promoting gender equality within the AAH work environment
- Ensures that project activities are carried out with cultural sensitivity, promotes gender equality and inclusion of marginalized groups;
- Works with field teams to ensure access and participation of women, men, girls and boys at risk to Action Against Hunger’s response, recovery and rehabilitation work
- Conducts Gender leadership trainings for project staff, community leaders and target communities, beneficiaries;
- Takes lead in the development of gender mainstreaming work plans in the implementation of all project activities in collaboration and coordination with other sectors;
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSC/Diploma in Agriculture or related fields
- professional experience in agriculture and related disciplines
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Good organizational capacity
- Strong knowledge and experience of agricultural techniques (e.g. groundnut cultivation, Good Agricultural Practices)
- Community participation/empowerment approaches
- Good knowledge of the local languages and culture (Moyamba District)
- Capacity to communicate with people
- Training skills
- Good team spirit
- Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently, but also coordinate effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to ride a motorbike with a valid driving licence
- Previous employment in Action Against Hunger or similar INGO is advantageous

WORK CONDITIONS
STARTING DATE: 1st September 2022
DURATION OF CONTRACT: Two (2) Months with possible extensions
LOCATION: Moyamba, with frequent travels to Freetown, and other field areas
REMUNERATION:
Monthly Basic Salary: 2,667,000 to SLL 2,907,450.000 based on profile
Monthly Transport Allowance: 15% of Monthly Basic Salary
Housing Allowance: 15% of Monthly Basic Salary
