International Non-governmental organization, Action Against Hunger has been working to fight undernutrition and support communities affected by crisis across the globe for almost 40 years and across nearly 50 countries. Action Against Hunger established its presence in both Liberia and Sierra Leone in 1991 during the Civil War and since then has been operational in the two countries by implementing various humanitarian and development programs related to health, nutrition, food security/livelihoods and advocacy geared towards the reduction of the prevalence rates of under-nutrition in both countries. Since January 2018, the two countries have been clustered and now operating under a single management structure. The coordination office is based in Freetown, Sierra Leone overseeing the operations in Bonthe and Moyamba.

Action Against Hunger is recruiting a suitably qualified Sierra Leonean as a Senior Environment Officer to Pilot/test the environmental actions of the logistics action plan at the mission level 

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Infrastructure waste management (Office and GH) (40%)
  • According to the identification of our volumes and categories of waste by office and GH map the recycling channels present in the areas of intervention, during site visits;
  • Carry out assessments during visits;
  • Identify the hazardous waste management channels;
  • Development of the collection process in the capital and bases and bases-capital, towards the recycling channels;
  • Initiate contracts with the recycling and waste management sectors,
  • framework recycling contracts;
  • Collect/capitalize program expectations on waste (written report to be relayed on coordination and headquarters).
  • Support the implementation of sustainable procurement and test the logistics tools (40%)
  • In close collaboration with the country office Procurement focal point, having analyzed strategic markets, contextualized Environmental, Social and Good Governance (ESG) risks in the risk matrix;
  • Test the sustainable criteria and therefore the supplier’s ability to meet them;
  • Identify supply chains for second-hand equipment, ensure the reliability of these supplies;
  • Identify the types / composition of packaging , and supplier;
  • List quality & environmental standards and labels at country level (according to strategic markets).
  • Reporting & Accountability (20%)
  • Collect data and indicator tracking table (KPIs);
  • Ensure internal communication on the results obtained at the level of the mission and headquarters;
  • Capitalization report.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma/Bachelor Degree in Environmental Sciences or related fields
  • Certificate in Environmental Sciences and or Waste Management
  • Proven basic knowledge in Logistics and or procurement
  • Proven computer skills especially in Microsoft Word and Excel

WORK CONDITIONS

STARTING DATE: September 2023

MONTHLY BASIC SALARY: 4,554.77 to 4,919.15 based on profile.

HOUSING AND TRANSPORT ALLOWANCE: 15% of basic salary each

DURATION OF CONTRACT: Four (4) Months, with possible  extension

LOCATION: Freetown – with possible travels to Bonthe, Moyamba, and other field areas
