PURPOSE:
ChildFund Sierra Leone is implementing a school and community health project funded by Proctor and Gamble (P&G) in Bo, Bombali, Kailahun, Koinadugu, Tonkolili, Moyamba and Kono districts. The overall goal of this project is to improve the health situation of rural communities in the above districts by reducing the incidences of waterborne diseases through the increased use of safe drinking water in 8,400 households, especially among children, and therefore improve the quality of life.
ChildFund is recruiting a Social Worker that will provide effective and efficient leadership in the field during the implementation of the project. It is a donor requirement. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the P&G Project at the field level with leadership, monitoring and reporting roles.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
Support project implementation

·         Supervise the distribution of Water Purification Sachets to households in program areas.

·         Coordinate storage facility and security of sanitation materials in the project communities

·         Supervised the construction and installation of large-scale Bio-Sand filters

·         Facilitate water testing process by the Ministry of Water Resources

·         Facilitate the establishment of Community Income Generation Activities (IGAs):

·         Coordinate the setting up and training of the Water Management Committee and Technicians

·         Conduct Training of Trainers (TOT) of Hygiene and Health Promoters, Community Volunteers, Community Health Workers & Social Workers

·         Organize youth drama and theatre groups in schools and communities for awareness raising on hygiene and sanitation

·         Facilitate school quiz competitions as means of raising awareness on hygiene and sanitation among school pupils

·         Lead and coordinate public awareness-raising campaigns (Radio discussion program)

·         Support community volunteers to conduct household-level training

·         Lead community awareness campaigns to promote Bio Sand filtration technology, water purification sachets and clean water for healthy living and good hygiene practices.

·         Any other related responsibilities as assigned.

Builds partnerships in the district and communities

·         Represents ChildFund in Health and WASH-related meetings, workshops/training at the district level and Chiefdom level.

·         Acts as liaison between ChildFund and other stakeholders, and between beneficiaries and communities at the district level.

·         Assists in all other health-related activities including attending health meetings as may be required.

·         Ensures project plans, updates on progress and challenges are communicated to partners in a timely manner

·         Works closely with the District Councils, Ministry of Health Officials (DHMTs), Ministry of Water Resources, and Ministry of Education Officials at the district and Community level in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities.

·         Any other duty assigned

Competencies:

·         Must be computer literate with reasonable proficiency in using Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Teams)

·         Good written and oral communication skills

·         Proficiency in project planning, implementation and Reporting (essential)

·         Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships with colleagues

·         Ability to coordinate several tasks within a given timeframe

·         Ability to operate and maintain cool relationships during stressful moments without prejudice quality results

·         Ability to ride a motorbike in difficult terrains and possession of a valid rider’s license

·         Experience working at the community level

·         Strong training facilitation, coordination and networking skills

·         Very good report-writing skills

·         Ability to solve problems, particularly in challenging situations

·         Cultural sensitivity and adaptability.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Development studies, or a related field.

·         Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
